Welcome to the First Ever Official Whose Forum Is it Anyway Debate
Brought to you by the Community Team as part of the MegaEgg Event

This event runs from now until Saturday 19th, 23:59 EDT

How you Play:
Make a post with one argument either for or against the legitimacy of the Easter Bunny!
  • A basic argument scores 1 point
  • A good argument scores 2 points
  • A great argument scores 3 points
Points are determined by judges who do not know whose comments they are judging. All judges decisions are final. This is double blind, so the judges are anonymous too.
Points are given to both individuals who made the post and the team pool.
Switching teams is not allowed.

Vote in the Poll at the top for which side you think is winning the debate!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Debate Check-In
At certain random intervals, the team pool points are calculated based on posts and 1 point per vote.
  • Whichever side is leading gets 10 points to distribute to players. (certain random intervals will actually reward 20 points!)
  • These 10 or 20 points are given to x players where x is the number of points that team leads by!
  • The players who receive the points will be the last players who contributed to that team.
Note that contributing frequently throughout the debate will reward you more points than a bunch of posts at one point.

Prizes
At the end of the debate, every player on the winning team gets 5 points.
All players, on both teams get 1 Greek egg for each 10 points (to a max of 20 per player)

Image

Player 5: 5 extra eggs
Player 4: 10 extra eggs
Player 3: 15 extra eggs
Player 2: 25 extra eggs
Player 1: 50 extra eggs! and a General Achievement Medal

In addition, the top player gets the greatest prize in the history of Conquer Club. The ability to name the OT forum (with admin veto).

The Easter Bunny is 100% legit. Who else leaves Easter baskets and hides all the eggs? In addition, we have supporting photographs.

The Easter Bunny is an indoctrination tool created by the German Church in the 17th century as a way of enticing kids into their churches.

He is now a cynical marketing ploy used by corporations who want to get kids hooked on their confectionary.

The story of the Easter Bunny is a history of the systemic and malicious exploitation of children via one enormous lie.

The Easter Bunny does not exist. But there is definitely a white rabbit on the Shore Leave planet in Star Trek TOS:

Easter Bunny is as legit as Jesus Christ. The children would die of boredom on Easter, if it wasn't for the Easter Bunny.

So...the Easter Bunny is real, millions of children would agree.

He is very real. I can remember when I was young, coming home from somewhere with my parents, and as our car pulled into the driveway, there on the lawn was the Easter Bunny.....and the next morning, there were eggs colored eggs all over the front yard :D

The Easter Bunny leaves behind toys and chocolate for children.
Guys in old vans also have toys and chocolate for children. And they are most certainly not legit.

Therefore the Easter Bunny is not legit.

I would surmise that far more children believe in the easter bunny then Area 51, Obamacare and betblades. Therefore as believing is the path to enlightenment the easter bunny has to be legit. (besides which belief in made up crap has got the catholic church a whole HEAP of money over th past 2000yeas or so)

The question at hand is not whether or not the Easter Bunny is real, but if he is legitimate.

The use of the word "legitimate" surely clouds the purpose of the debate because Merriam-Webster doesn't have a definition that's at all relatable to the debate at hand:
1
a : lawfully begotten; specifically : born in wedlock
b : having full filial rights and obligations by birth <a legitimate child>
2
: being exactly as purposed : neither spurious nor false <a legitimate grievance> <a legitimate practitioner>
3
a : accordant with law or with established legal forms and requirements <a legitimate government>
b : ruling by or based on the strict principle of hereditary right <a legitimate king>
4
: conforming to recognized principles or accepted rules and standards <a legitimate advertising expenditure> <a legitimate inference>
5
: relating to plays acted by professional actors but not including revues, burlesque, or some forms of musical comedy <the legitimate theater>

Ok, so let's just let DoomYoshi off the hook and assume he means "Is the Easter Bunny real?". Well, that too is pretty god damn ambiguous because there are varying degrees of real. Firstly, realness is subjective. An adult may not believe that the Easter Bunny is real yet a little kid, who either isn't as knowledgeable or is more imaginative, might believe that the Easter Bunny is real. I would claim that neither is wrong. Secondly, what is "real"? Does an idea such as the Easter Bunny have to manifest itself physically to be called "real"? Is democracy real? Is love real? Am I real?

In the end, however, I would say that yes, the Easter Bunny is real. While it is unlikely that it exists physically in the Universe and within the visible light portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, the concept of the Easter Bunny is very real. The existence of words to describe it (such as "Easter Bunny", in English) and the existence of what it is or the folklore of it in our minds are as much evidence that I would need to claim that it is real, in a sense. No, the Easter Bunny may not physically hide Easter Eggs throughout the world so that little kids might find them, but in a way, isn't the concept of the Easter Bunny driving parents to do the same? For all we know, the Easter Bunny mastered some form of mind control and is making parents do its dirty work.

In the end, as long as we have an idea of what the Easter Bunny is, it is as real as realness allows.

The easter bunny has to be legit, so much so that other animals are trying to steal his thunder! I think this is the definitive proof we all need!

The Easter Bunny is clearly not legit:
  • Why should a bunny have any interest in chicken eggs... pretty suspect in itself right there.
  • If a bunny was so obsessed with eggs, we'd be talking about how sly bunnies are when they sneak in to the hen houses, and foxes would be put out of business.
  • How would a bunny handle eggs even if it wanted to?? No thumbs... I think we'd see a LOT of dropped eggs.

I also submit Exhibit A...:

It is no coincidence that the Easter Bunny originated in the same country that later gave the world Adolf Hitler, a man who said that if you tell a huge lie and tell it often enough then people will believe it. He was clearly drawing inspiration from his fellow countrymen's success in creating and perpetuating the myth that a magical rabbit celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ by handing out eggs.

Not only is the Easter Bunny a preposterous work of fiction, but the persistence of the Easter Bunny Lie gave inspiration to the Nazi propaganda machine.

When opinions are discarded, the truth may be revealed. After all, a closed mind can't see what's right in front of its eyes because its too busy seeing what it wants to see.

Now, regarding the matter of realness... Although it is unlikely that some anthropomorphized holiday rodent has spent lifetimes on Earth, squandering his or her supernatural abilities on the sweet rackets of Easter, it is of course within the the realm of possibility that such a thing could exist -- highly unlikely, but possible. In fact, if the universe is truly infinite in size, duration, and variety, then not only is anything possible, but everything is inevitable, and somewhere out there in the dark cosmic unknown could exist an entire planet of Easter bunnies with jobs and families and wars all their own. And who knows, maybe every once in a while, one of them accidentally finds his or her way to a secret door hidden behind a curtain of ivy that is hidden behind a massive waterfall on some island that isn't on any maps because it's shrouded in mist, and its once known location has fallen into myth. And every once in a longer while, one of those bunnies is actually brave enough to go through that impossible door. And maybe that door is like some Einstein Rosen Bridge wormhole that opens on a secluded springtime German grove. Well, once one of those cute and fuzzy alien bunnies stepped through that door and traversed space and time through that one-way portal to find him or herself stuck on this strange and foreign planet with strange and foreign creatures arranged into a hierarchy that places rabbits somewhere between the ugly ravenous rat and the adorable squeaking squirrel, it goes without saying that this particular long-eared cosmic sojourner would eventually lose his or her marbles and start doing all sorts of weird $h!t, like stealing eggs, feverishly painting them in true psychedelic fashion, and then stashing them here and there as if for some delusional but all-important occupation. What a nut... or bad egg, if you prefer.

But as far as legitimacy goes... well, that's easy. Since the Easter bunny is still going after all this time, he is clearly too legit to quit. :)
