Federation Internationale de Ski [TPA5 Major] COMPLETED

Post by Silly Knig-it »

"Federation Internationale de Ski"

(These things have to be in French. I am not sure why but it seems to be required.)

All races now running, 8 finished. Looking at an Sept. finish

Kick Butt in the All Star Competition
sempaispellcheck wrote:Hello!

As you may know, the players who competed in the TPA5 All-Star Skills Competitions earned points for the TPA5 tournaments they were playing in based on their performance.
At the end of the Skills Competitions, your tournament - the Federation Internationale de Ski - finished with the highest score of all tournaments.
As a result, you have received an additional GA Medal to award for this tournament.
The criteria for this additional GA medal is still subject to approval by the TDs, so please let us know ASAP how that second GA Medal is to be earned.

Thank you.
sempai

We rocked and as a result we have an additional GA Medal.

So this GA medal will be awarded to the person who has the lowest cumulative time, across all the races. If this is the same person as the tournament winner the it will go to the person with the 2nd best time. If it is the same as the winner of the two races GA, then it will go to the next.
This is a TPA5 major tournament. So you don't want to miss it. And its designed by me so it will be fun, another reason not to miss it.

This is a Tournament Players Association Year 5 [TPA5] event, and is governed by its rules, guidelines, and judgments which are detailed here: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 9&t=207126
All are welcome to join and participate in the association. You do not need to do anything more than join one or more of the TPA5 events that will be announced on Mondays. Check back on the scoreboard to see how you're doing:

"Federation Internationale de Ski"

A series of 10 races, each scored seperately. The points from each race (see below) are then totaled and at the end of the season, we will have a winner.

ImageImageImage

As this is a major tournament, I am looking for 100+ racers.

Each race will start approximately two weeks apart. This puts us on track to be done by the beginning to middle of summer. A race takes about 6-8 weeks, so it is possible that you could have 6-8 games going (max) and very possible that you have none going. Freemiums are welcome but I must warn you, I cannot hold things for you and it is very possible that I would use up all of your 4 slots.

How each individual race works:
You will be ski racing down the mountain. There will be ten sections (maps, see below). Each will be 20 rounds with each round counting as a second. As the skier, If you beat your opponent in 9 rounds, then that section took you 9 seconds to go through. 12 rounds it took you 12 seconds. If you lose it took you 20 seconds. So you want to get through each section in as few seconds (rounds on the map) as possible. The winner will be the one with the quickest time. If you are the hill and are losing on a map you want it to take as long as possible. So drag it out (this refers to the number of rounds, NOT the time it takes for the game).

Conversely, if you are the opponent (the one playing the hill, representing snow conditions, etc.), you want to remember that you are a fellow racer. So you want to delay the skier as much as possible so your own score will better hold up. You as the opponent represent, the terrain difficulty, steepness, snow condition, etc. You want to make the section as difficult as possible for the racer. (You will be the opponent on each map but with a different racer (random.org)) To make it even more fun to be the hill you will get the following negative (time off your run) bonuses.
Win in:
4 or less: -16
8 or less: -12
12 or less: -8
16 or less: -4

If you are the skier and are losing on a map you don't want your opponent to get these bonuses so drag it out.

Please note, that in neither case am I talking about clock time. I am only talking about the number of turns. You always want your opponent to take as many turns as possible if you are losing. Conversely, if you are winning (as skier or the hill) you want to win as quickly as possible.
Please, Please read: This could drastically affect your chance of winning or losing.
I called this section Secret, so hopefully people will read it.

Unlike every other game you have played in CC, this one it does matter how quickly (number of turns) you take to lose. The quicker you lose the more it benefits your opponent. If you are losing, the next best thing is to go to the round limit.

If you are the skier and are losing, you already are getting a 20 (20 seconds on the clock), do you want your opponent, the hill to get negative time off their score? If you concede you are giving them that.

If you are the hill and are losing, you already won't get any of those lovely negative bonus times, but your opponent will have a faster time on that segment. Make them take the full 20 seconds by going to the round limit.
The 10 races of the 2015 Season:
Use the pull downs (below) to see the maps that make up the sections of each race.
All races subject to last minute changes without notice, until the race actually starts. (Wiggle room for me but I don't expect to change anything)

All segments of each race (individual maps) will be Standard, 1v1, Seq, Auto, 20 rounds, 24 hours.

Spoils, Reinforcements, and Special Gameplay listed next to each map.

Individual Race Results and Overall Season Scores are linked in Post 3.
Remember first 30 finishers of each race get points.

At the end of each race, the first 30 racers receive points, according to the pull down below:
This is a modified system taking directly from the FIS web site. Missing are the factors for course difficulty, steepness, etc. (But these are 100% accurate as far as cut and paste go. And they are certified by me, your friendly local (on planet earth) TO.)
1st - 100space6th - 40space11th - 24space16th - 15space21st - 10space26th - 5
2nd - 80space 7th - 36space12th - 22space17th - 14space22nd - 9space27th - 4

4th - 50 space 9th - 29space14th - 18space19th - 12space 24th - 7space29th - 2
5th - 45 space10th - 26space15th - 16space20th - 11space25th - 6space 30th - 1
It is possible that ties will occur. This will be handled as it is normally in the World. Those tied will receive the same score and there will be a couple of missing places. For example, two tie for 1st in a race. Then both will be scored as, 1st. Both receive 100points. However there will be no second place finisher. There will be two firsts, then a third, fourth, etc. 3rd receives as stated above, 60 points.

Should the season end up in a tie, then tiebreakers as follows:
1st tiebreaker - total race times for the season.
2nd and following tiebreakers, times for 10th race, then 9th, etc.
If I need a third tiebreaker something is really rotten in Denmark.

Overall season score spreadsheet in Posting #3.
Individual race score spreadsheets in Posting #3.

Image

=D> =D> =D> **GA medal approved
for anyone who can
win 2 races.** =D> =D> =D>

I expect that this will be very difficult. Based on past experience, I expect the tournament winner to have won no races, but finished well consistently. Since only the first 30 score points, the winner could finish very badly in a bunch of races but make up for it in the end. So if you can win 2 of the 10 races, that is an achievement and worthy of additional recognition.

ImageImage

Every two weeks I will start a new race, as well as keeping the current ones going. It may sound like a lot but I assure you that is a rather light load. Each new segment of a race will be issued when about 80% have completed the previous section. This keeps the racers all in about the same place while moving things along.

All games to be accepted within 24 hours:

If you are the skier and you do not accept, then you can assume your skier is doing this
Image
and you will be scored as a DNF (Did Not Finish) and you are out of the race. Two DNFs and you are out of the tournament. The only exceptions are if you pm me or wall me and say oops, please resend. I will always check my pms, and wall before eliminating anyone.

If an opponent (the hill, the green player) fails to pick up a round, they will be replaced by a random (random.org) player. So it is possible that you would have to pick up an extra defense round. The player who deadbeats will incur a 20 second penalty. The player who picks up the extra round has the possibility of taking additional time off their score. If you do not want this and your name comes up, you may refuse it (no penalty, just missed opportunity), and I will give it to the next person on the list. If you DNF in two races I will assume that you have a season ending injury and will remove you from the active skiing roster.

Overall Scoreboard and Individual Race Scoreboard

will be found in the third post. They will appear as needed once there are scores to insert in them.

Your Super Nice Wonderful Tournament Coordinator:
And finally. I am very easy to work with if you communicate with me. I don't need to know the details. RL is kicking my butt until Thursday is sufficient. I can bend lots of different directions to make things work. But if you don't communicate, I won't hesitate in dropping you immediately. I would much rather make things work so you get to continue. (It really is a lot less complicated for me.)

So please, please, tell me when a problem comes up, an observation about how things are going, or anything else you feel I should know. I love the feedback, it helps make things better for me and for you because I can continue to improve my tournaments.

Thank you,

Silly

Additional spreadsheets will be added as they become useful.
Only the first 30 people in each race score points and thus would appear on the scoreboard. If you look at each spreadsheet, as it is completed your name will appear in blue or red. Blue, you scored points, red you finished out of the points, 31st or lower. Northern Mountain, being complete shows this.

So if your name is not in blue on one of the races, you will not appear on the Scoreboard. Updalions, who won the first race tops the list with 100 points. While Silly Knig-it who finished out of the running, is no where to be found on the Scoreboard
Scoreboard
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mfo_VRq1oenrLo562OPOcJLws2DdQgRRyx7Vq30S4f0/edit?usp=sharing

Yes they can look confusing, with a mass of numbers across a sheet. Fortunately you can ignore 99% of the numbers.

Each race consists of ten segments or maps. So each spreadsheet will have ten segments. Each segment only appears as there are times to enter in them. (As of this writing, Northern Mountain, is the only race with all ten segments showing.) The first one will appear all the way to the right on the spreadsheet.

The S and H at the top of each column for each map, refer to your score as the skier and as the hill. The yellow column on the left next to the names is your cumulative time.

All one really needs to look at is one's own scores. So find your name. You will see your relative standing and your cumulative time in the yellow next to your name. Look across and you will see your scores for each race. Do they look right to you? If not contact me.

If you are confused as to how I got the score please ask. (As the skier, if you won, you got the time (#of rounds) it took. If you lost you scored 20 seconds, (max time).) (As the hill, you got a zero if you lost (no effect on your time), and a minus score (time off your time) if you won.)
