Yep it is officially dead. No new maps are being made, no one is commenting on any maps, maps haven't been released out of Beta because the powers that be want to make sure all maps are super perfect when they actually are released from beta. There aren't a lot of players that are testing maps on the beta site and coming in here to make comments as to what changes need to be made. thenobodies80 and myself knew this would happen if a testing site was opened up along with other things. It isn't worth making a map for CC any more with the active players declining at a decent rate.

Or do you just need more map-makers?

no. and maybe yes. much mapmakers (some of them were realy artists) leave CC. but what CC needs more as mapmakers is interest.
interest of people who are behind. there are maybe 3-5 guys who realy care (from my view).
CC also needs more new maps. maybe new policy for making maps.

maybe also new design, new software could help.

The last thing this site needs is more maps. They need to come up with a competent sorting tool for the maps they already have. Which has been suggested time and time again, but is further down the list of priorities, behind such important things as adding Chess to a RISK style gaming site, linking victories to facebook, and coding dancing geckos to appear on the screen of a player waiting to take their next turn during a speed game.

Bollocks.

None. I carried and then championed the place as long as I could then. Don't look at me. ;)

I've been on hiatus from CC for a couple years and have just started playing again over the past few weeks.
While it's sad that the Foundry is kind of like a ghost town, it was always just a matter of time, wasn't it? With so many maps now - some that are so confusing that their difficult to figure out - I think it reached a point of overkill.
Nonetheless, it was fun in the early days, and Andy was always a good administrator.
Wonder what happened to Oaktown, and some of the others who have fallen to the wayside?

It is a pity, I've always enjoyed playing BETA maps and a couple of more recent ones (Gallipoli & Spanish Armada) have become amongst my favorites. Generally though, the quantity of maps is fine for the moment and there are still some old maps that need to be fixed. My number one pet hate is maps that allow a bonus to be dropped and ruin any chance of a competitive game. :x

Many, many times I've seen someone drop a bonus and not win. Dropping a bonus is an advantage, of course, but I'd rank it fourth behind dice, cards, and skill. It by no means eliminates a chance of a close game. In fact, twice recently I've dropped a bonus and then failed to win a single attack in the next three turns and gotten wiped out by turn 4.
