Maybe if pirates could attack only treasures and merchants could attack only ports
Read up codie. It's been said several times, at least three by myself, that DiM has left the site and unless zimmah has the graphics files nobody can really take it over.
Has the xml on this been changed? Just had two poly (4) games start with even drops. Just wondering if it's coincidence because that's never happened for me before.

I think I still have DiM's email address somewhere. I'll look for it on the weekend. If you don't see me post here by Sunday night, please remind me.

This map is not an ideal match for games with nuclear/zombie spoils. If your opponent gets a card and nukes your merchant, you won't win even if you have the objectives, and not get any bonuses as well. All you can now hope is get a card to nuke the opponent's ship Game 15504705

I guess you'd best make sure you get a card with your opponent's merchant on before he gets yours? There's still some strategy in getting cards, even if a lot of luck too.
Since the map author is no longer active, this map is considered abandoned. As there are still gameplay flaws, I am not able to quench this map out of Beta.
Rather than allowing it to die in perpetual beta, I will be closing the map. If someone would like to rescue the map, or if the mapmaker returns, I will consider reinstating it's beta status.
nice try. u were erik the dark, who is a most successful pirate. pirates cannot become governors and therefore cannot gain any governor province bonuses.
I did ask if i was being stupid lol. Yep can see why eric wins most his task is 2 easy from where he starts. Only bummer was only needed 1 game for my bronze and it didnt count lol.
So, I think I see a big option disparity between merchants and pirates, that skews the game from early on. I was taking my merchant opponent on at his ports from round 1, while he couldn't get at the treasure sites I had secured. The reinforcement disparity was set in stone from round 3. A speed-bump for pirates would have made it more even. The pirates can attack the ports, the merchant player's early-game bonus zones, at any time from their ship, the merchants have to slog across intervening land from the ports to obstruct the pirates, forcing them to chew through a bunch of neutral forces to get at their enemy. I think the early game would be a lot more balanced if pirates couldn't attack ports directly. Suggestion:Maybe add a fort to each port, and force the pirate to go through that to get at the port proper, or attack across land.
Hey Kurful. You're correct there is a glaring disparity in balance between pirates and merchants. Unfortunately, the maker of this map hasn't been active for a long while so it's unlikely this will ever leave beta.
Ah. I didn't know this was abandoned. I was gonna say the ports stopped giving the bonuses. True there was some disparity in this map; but I enjoyed it.

Was checking on disaprity between merchant and pirates, especially at beginning of game. Playing trench, Pirates can attack all ports AND all bordering terrs, while merchants can only attack ports. Big advantage to pirates,

Yes, probably, but it won't be. It'll just be left in beta and never quenched properly. What's even more stupid is how many official tournaments use the map.

Unfortunatly I don't have the graphical files, nor do I have any way to contact DiM.
I am really sad about it because DiM has always been my favorite mapmaker, and there were some great maps in the pipeline that have been abandoned.
