Windows 10 problem

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my PC. Since that time, this has been happening at least once every session:

All the game functions freeze mid-turn. None of the "buttons" work (including "Refresh"). No error messages; nothing -- just total game freeze.

Otherwise my PC (cursor, other windows, etc.) continues to work normally.

The only way I found to "cure" it is to exit CC, and log in again.

This only happens on CC -- not on any other game or website.

What's up with that? Has it happened to anyone else? How can I fix it?

Check for driver updates. If you upgrade your windows, many programs become incompatible to your computer. Be sure to also check your browser add-ons for updates afterward. Programs like Java en adobe acrobat might become incompatible as well.

You should be able to find the updates on the website of the manufacturer: AMD or Intel

If you are using internet explorer, windows 10 possibly ships with a newer version. You could try downloading Chrome or Firefox and see if that helps.

You should probably post this in Bug Reports too

Thanks for the advice, guys! My preferred browser is Internet Explorer, but I also use Chrome occasionally. Maybe I should use it whenever I play CC.

My Adobe Acrobat for reading *.PDF files has also been incompatible since upgrading to Windows 10.

If the issue is Internet Explorer the you should create a bug report and leave all the details they ask for eg Operating System, browser version etc. I am sure they would appreciate knowing

dukasaur.. vista? install windows 7 at least. it's faster than vista. it's actually good when it's well optimized. and uninstall all the toolbars on your browser as well.

I hate learning new shit, and I hate installing stuff. I'll keep using it as long as I possibly can, and then I'll probably buy a new computer and use whatever default shit it comes with.

Conquer club is really the only game I play. It's not like I'm playing Duke Nukem or whatever that requires blazing speeds.

Win 10 does not support IE, you need to use Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox or another browser

Every "upgrade" I've ever had was forced on me against my will because whatever I had stopped working and had to be replaced. I've never felt any need for an "upgrade".

My first computer was an Apple IIe with CP/M. I used that until 1991 when it died and I could no longer get parts.

My second computer was actually pretty advanced for its time. It was a Compaq portable, fore-runner of the laptops. The thing came in a suitcase sized package that unfolded to reveal a small computer and a built-in 8-inch monochrome monitor. They were 8088 machines but mine had the 80286 expansion card. Like I said, very advanced for its time. The thing was tough. Under the plastic outer layer of the case was a heavy-gauge steel layer. When they built portables, they took into account the type of punishment these things would take from airport baggage handlers and stuff. Hell, the thing would probably survive a plane crash along with the black box.

The Compaq had DOS. It wasn't MS-DOS. I can't remember which company made it, but it was one of many types of DOS that existed in those days. Nowadays when people say DOS they mean MS-DOS, but back then many companies made a DOS of some kind.

I used the Compaq until 1997. Just like the Apple before it, the only reason I got rid of it was that it died and I could no longer get parts. That year I picked up a newer 286 with a polychrome monitor and the snazzy new 3.5 inch drives. However, other than the fancy new floppy drives and the polychrome monitor, it was actually inferior in many ways to my Compaq. Within a year I picked up another new computer, a 486, and reluctantly I put Windows 95 on it, although it took me a long time to get comfortable with the idea of using a mouse. For a few months I used the Win95 with keyboard shortcuts only and absolutely refused to touch the mouse, but after a few months curiosity became stronger than the revulsion and I started touching the thing.

The 486 lasted until about 2005, when I got a Pentium III machine with Windows NT. That was a super-powerful machine, I got it from a software developer I know who spares no expense with his machines, although of course by the time he gave it to me it was getting long in the tooth and some of the components were no longer state-of-the-art. Later I replaced the NT with Vista.

In 2012 I went long-hauling for a couple years, so I needed a laptop, and in 2013 I bought my current machine, a Toshiba laptop with a Celeron 900. I actually kind-of regret that. Even in 2013, the Celeron 900 was already a bit dated. I had a chance to buy a much faster processor for $400 or the one I bought for $300. At the time, I wasn't making much money and the collection agencies were pretty far up my ass, so I felt I had to go with the cheaper option, but now after only 3 years the thing really lags when I go to graphic-intensive sites like Facebook.

For the first time, I'm considering replacing a computer before it actually dies. It's a bit of a moral dilemma for me. I consider wastefulness a moral obscenity and I've always said people who buy new gadgets when the old one still work should be beaten to death, but here I am thinking about buying a new computer. I guess maybe for the first time I'm feeling the need for a premature upgrade. Anyway, we'll see. Usually after I decide I need something it takes a year or so before I persuade myself to spend the money, so maybe this thing will die in the next year and I'll make a guilt-free purchase.

Well Linux Mint 18 did go to the "flat" stuff for compatibility reasons (at least that is the reason if I remember correctly). Nice thing about Linux is that it doesn't have all the background programs running using up all of your memory.

yes, mint-y is a little flat in mint 18.

But i still use mint 17.3 in this laptop. I installed mint 18 on a mac to see if the suspend/wake up function had been corrected and it was, but I don't use linux on the mac, the trackpad still doesn't feel right. But i can't do anything on OSX either, other than browsing or watching video. Everyone raves about the mac keyboards but i still love the keyboard on my old precision M4400, that must be like 10 years old now, I bought it only 5 years ago I think, for a little over 200 dls. I do not remember though, if mint 18 comes with the mint-x theme as well, or only the mint-y flat theme.

Eventually linux mint will have to go completely flat i think, just like almost every laptop had to go to the 16:9 display ratio. And that's the reason I returned a laptop I had bought with a 16:9 ratio, and a couple of years a bought an used laptop with 16:10 ratio, and a few years later I bought a mac, because they're one of the few new laptops with 16:10.

My thought was, if they make computers easy to use everyone will know how to use them! I wanted to be one of the few that used them lol.

Windows NT was actually a stable OS. Then in that line there was windows 2000 that was stable also. On the home side, 98 got stable with SP2 i think, then millenium edition was shit, then XP got stable with SP1 or 2 i don't remember. Vista was shit, and then Win7 was fine. Everything after that I haven't really tested, because i can't get passed the clownish shell.

And about your computer it's your fault because I offered you advice on how to get a cheap computer like this used Precision M4400 that is actually pretty good still. Inter Core 2 Duo 2x3.06GHz, 4GB ram, and an nvidia quadro fx 770m, with a nice 1920x1200 (16:10) display. It costed me little over 200 dls. And it runs pretty nicely on linux mint, so it could run pretty nicely with windows 7 with everything optimized. But you told me you didn;t need my advice, and that I sucked and I don't remember what more.

I think you were trying to get me to buy something on Ebay or something like that, which was the only reason I didn't go for it. I like to buy things from real stores where I can touch them and verify that they're real. I'm really reluctant to send money to some place that may be real or may be just a figment of some Malaysian hacker's imagination.
