A very informative history lesson. Just one question, when you quote 7500 current members are they paid up members or including free players?
all... premium, freemium and a few thousand dead accounts...-Jésus noir
Dead accounts? Those are the active numbers I thought (active within 30 days)
Yes, they are "active accounts" by definition. But a few thousand are the one and done members that sign up, start a game, and then vanish into the wind after five minutes. Never to be seen from or heard from again. These are the targets the boss is trying like hell to retain with guide games and other nonsense like tic tac toe I guess. Right confederates? These are also the targets that, in my opinion at least, he is trying to dupe into "trying out" a month of premium for $4.99 not realizing they will be autobilled for two years before they notice the deduction on their billing statement by chance one day.

I would appreciate your help, and the help of the volunteers/admins in correcing a minor problme giftign omeone with a memberhsip that could become a big probem in terms of PR. Lets make this a win-win rather than a lose-lose.
However when our clan tried to help out one of our members [player]dyrtydog[/player] by gifing him with a 3 month premium through Order #3377 . it didn/t work.

that was me on the receiving part...had no idea this was even happening, I was BROKE !! shit happens in life. Similarly, I see someone who is now struggling with money and I offer to go help, and I find its a rip off to buy someone ELSE a premium without having to purchase excess credits that will not ever be used again. I was totally unaware that this post ever existed.
Dukasaur: Re; your post of Novemer 23rd: Thanks. Interesting read.
I've seen the same evolution in another gaming site. As the game grows older the community eventually turns on the people running it simply because people want different things. No matter what is done there is always a loud-mouthed group complaining.

see that? do you see that, right there? do you see that, right there, that i bolded and made red and mega huge? do you see that? that is the issue, nothing is being done. from 30K members down to just above 7K, but according to you, we are just loud mouths complaining... ok... makes sense... all the loud mouths are driving people from the site, not the poor decisions (MANY MADE BEFORE BIG WHAM!!!)... yes, the loud mouths changed the freestyle rules and drove that community away. yes, the loud mouths decided to openly combat the vocal members of the forums and eradicate them with perma bans, etc. yes, the loud mouths are the ones that have not placed the maps into categories; easy, moderate, complicated, expert and made them easier to search/browse, etc... yes, the loud mouths are to blame... sigh... thanks for figuring that one out!!-Jésus noir
HEY, YOU GUYS!!!

Allow me to bump. I have just found out about this, having taken a surprised look at my credit card statement earlier today. Having gone through the 11 pages of conversation in this thread, I feel like this issue has not been addressed at all.
Let me make one thing clear from the start. When I purchase premium membership, I am not a community member contributing to the continued existence of Conquer Club. I am instead a customer at Big Wham LLC, paying money in return for a service. And that service is, in my opinion, worth 30 dollars a year.
In the past, I have purchased 12-month subscriptions for a total of four times, and never have these been renewed without me going through the CC Store. I would get a nice email saying “Hello Domovoi, your Premium Membership has expired. Please consider renewing to enjoy the full Conquer Club experience!"
Last year, I was obviously unaware that the terms had been changed. Having received no notification of the sorts, I renewed my premium membership in good faith. That faith, however, was misplaced. There are two main reasons for that: 1. When purchasing the 'annual subscription,' the words 'automatic renewal' are not mentioned throughout the purchase process. Unless you read the terms, something no-one does, and I had no reason to do so - having purchased premium membership three times before. 2. The actual 12-month membership is hidden in the Redeem section.
Obviously this change of the terms of use has caused a lot of uproar. This could be resolved really easily by just adding those magic words to the description of the annual subscription AND by placing the annual subscription and 12-month membership on the same page.
As said, CC is worth 30 dollars per year to me, but only when I decide that for myself. I sent an email to Big Wham demanding a refund. If that happens, I'll be happy to purchase premium membership again in the future. If not, the 30 dollars that went off my account last week will be the last CC ever gets from me. I will continue to play - I'll just limit my games to 4 at a time.
Let me end by saying that apart from making members feel cheated upon, the way in which the subscription is presented in the Store seems legally dubious to me. It only takes a quick look at California's Automatic Renewal Law...

Call your credit card provider and make a chargeback of unathorized payment. CC will inform them that it's in the TOS - but preempt this by telling your card provider to get CC to prove a box you ticked or some sort of opt in option that you accepted since the new TOS's were introduced, accepting the auto renewal.
If you signed up since the new ToS's, it'll probably be bad luck as you would have accepted when signing up. But if you joined prior to that then you should win your chargeback case.
it's just boggling to me that something as simple as placing the word "autobilled" or "recurring" like this;
would clear up so much confusion. yet just stays the same.
i guess the revenue is more important than the image. there's no telling how many unsuspecting suckers are still paying money to the site that left years ago.
I didn't see an announcement for this so I hope I'm not preempting the admins or anything. But CC just started accepting Bitcoin for everything except the annual/quarterly membership, though that could be implemented in the future from what I hear. This would mean that it can't renew automatically. I don't know if the price would be the same though, but that's just my own speculation.
I didn't really go through each post on this but am I the only one that sees "subscription" and assumed it was a recurring charge? Dont get me wrong, it could be made more clear I suppose. Regardless, I just bought some credits with bitcoin and am using them for a 3 month membership, no need to worry about automatic payments with that
Well before it might have been called a subscription but we had to renew it. You logged in and you see the adds you were now a freedom. So this time that step was skipped, the charged my credit card. I do have two questions for admin.
1. Is the price the same? I am not paying more for not being able to choose to stop playing. right? Because I would have to object to that, because it would be getting less for paying more.

Yeah I did this when I signed up and got a message from Paypal alerting me to the fact the subscription was a recurring subscription.

By any chance do you understand that conquer credits may in fact be priceless? Recently I fell under your same misconception when reaching on the shelf for the 11,000 Conquer Credit and heading off to the checkout lane.
I was reading the back of the box and questioning wether the ratio of credits to dollars matched up. Then I realized I just was about to be the proud owner of 500cc's for only three pennies(nowww who's the fool) with three full one year premium memberships to share!
So, if you gift only 21(a mere $700) memberships you'll get yours for pennies on the dollar!!
By any chance do you support Global Warming?

You're a clan leader, do you honestly feel you'd be breaking a rule by signing into your mates account and purchasing him/her a premie?
Take the time to find the humor in the situation, Gary.
