DKs Best of 2012-13 Grand Finale

This is not an open tournament. You must have been a finalist in one of the qualifying tournaments to be eligible!

This is the Grand Finale for the Best of 2012 and Best of 2013 Series. The basic methodology will be the same as the History of Nuclear War Grand Finale and DKs Best of 2011 Grand Finale. There will be eight players, each representing one of the eight tournaments in the Best of 2012 and 2013 series.

I will simply post the list of Champions, send them each a PM inviting them here, and wait a few days. If there is no response, I'll go down the list to the player who came in second, then the player who came in third, until we have players representing each of the eight tournaments. Once we have our list, each one will choose a map from the Best of 2011. He will have no choice of settings -- the settings will be those that were used in the original tournament. We will then have a single round of 8 games to play, using the Finale format (Terminator) that was used in the original tournaments.

If a player is eligible to represent more than one tourney, he must choose only and pass on the other(s).

Phase 8
12 players in 2 groups will play 6-player games on the District of Alaska map. The first player eliminated in each game is out of the tournament. The remainder will go on to the next round.[/spoiler]

Phase 9
10 players in 2 groups will play 5-player games on the Czechoslovak Fragmentation map. The first player eliminated in each game is out of the tournament. The remainder will go on to the next round.[/spoiler]
The finals will be different from the first nine phases.

In the final round, the eight remaining players will face off simultaneously on all nine maps used in the tournament thus far. Game Type will not be randomized. These games will be Terminator, and players will score 1 point for each kill and two extra points for winning a game. The player who scores the most points in the final phase will win the tournament.

In case of a tie, the following tiebreaking rules will be used
1. Total wins in the Final Shootout.
2. Total wins in the whole tournament.
3. Total kills in the Final Shootout.
4. Total kills in the whole tournament.

There is a GA medal for the player with the most wins over the first eight phases.

I have been asked what happens if a game ends by round limit with no actual kills.

In that case there would be only the 2 points awarded for the game win. There are no "honourary" kills. You have to kill someone to score a point for a kill.

In that case there would be only the 2 points awarded for the game win. There are no "honourary" kills. You have to kill someone to score a point for a kill.

I'm surprised more people aren't trying for kills.

If you go to a round-limit win, one person gets 2 points, everyone else gets dick all. So going for a round limit win gives you a 1/8 chance at 2 points, which basically translates into a quarter point. Going for a kill gives you a point, even if you subsequently lose.
