Happy cinco de mayo

Post by 2dimes »

I'll be honest. I know this is probably not observed in most places. I just love anything that causes places here to sell burritos for less money.

That fiesta was created by Americans who find any celebrations worth it to overlook their hatred for non-whites.

I'm not a racists...I love Americanized hispanic food.

It is, like a lot of holidays in the United States, attempts by immigrants to remind themselves of their heritage by basically doing things that would never be done in the land of their ancestors.

(Good Example: St. Patrick's Day. It's a "Feast" day in Ireland, but no real Irishman would celebrate a feast day by eating inferior corned beef and definitely no one would ever dye fake beer green.)

Wikipedia wrote:According to a paper published by the UCLA Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture about the origin of the observance of Cinco de Mayo in the United States, the modern American focus on that day first started in California in 1863 in response to the resistance to French rule in Mexico.[30] "Far up in the gold country town of Columbia (now Columbia State Park) Mexican miners were so overjoyed at the news that they spontaneously fired off rifle shots and fireworks, sang patriotic songs and made impromptu speeches."[31]

A 2007 UCLA Newsroom article notes that "the holiday, which has been celebrated in California continuously since 1863, is virtually ignored in Mexico."[30] TIME magazine reports that "Cinco de Mayo started to come into vogue in 1940s America during the rise of the Chicano Movement."[21] The holiday crossed over from California into the rest of the United States in the 1950s and 1960s but did not gain popularity until the 1980s when marketers, especially beer companies, capitalized on the celebratory nature of the day and began to promote it.[32][33] It grew in popularity and evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, first in areas with large Mexican-American populations, like Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, New York, followed by Cleveland, Boston, Indianapolis, Raleigh, Dallas, San Antonio, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Denver, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Tucson, San Francisco, San Jose, and San Diego.[34]

Mexicans as a society has a selective memory about the battle. About half of it anyway.

We have cinco de mayo but no cinco de ketchup. What's up with that?

I can't believe it. Mucho Burrito must have been too busy last year. They seem to have changed today's special to a slightly over $12 combo or a family special of two small and two regular burritos for $26 plus change.

Oh well, I hope everyone has a great day.

Cinco de Maya was a victory and about a year later on the same site a defeat.

We have to. The way our thing works....been going to kauai with entire extended family for almost 50 years.

At least I've reserved my time. If there's still shit going down, then they'll honor our time and we can change it - they are doing that extensively now.

Besides - no virus can live in a body that's 70% Mai Tai
