I don't see this to be a stupid rule, you could have let someone win and kill his target while protecting yourself instead....I have completed +600 Assassin games and can't recall to have killed someone else than my target to end a game, I have done it by mistake for sure but never intentionally.
Sorry you are taking this that way, I can't let the assassinated being eliminated just because someone else but his hunter decided to kill him/her.

As far the actual Round 5, we are down to 2 games remaining, I'm anticipating to perhaps complete this weekend if so then Round 6 to be send right away with some good and "easy" 1v1 best-of-3...
