CC Map Masters II - The Ultimate 1v1 Battle!

Post by shoop76 »

Excited to announce that we will run this again. Another 5 year battle.

Before we begin I would like to discuss if any changes are necessary. Thanks all for participating and your input.

Only thing I can think off the top of my head would be nice to be able to see each players average score per tournament i.e.
I have gotten 429 points in the current iteration over 82 maps and so an average of 5.23 points a tournament :D But is a nice way to compare with the players at the top if you don't mange/want to play all of the maps.

I am looking forward to being able to play the maps at the beginning that I wasn't able to play as was off the site :D

I was quite happy with the format but that is because I am not a huge fan of trench or poly so glad neither were in the tournaments :D

I think it was too much. Yeah, it was an epic, but other events suffered in the meantime.

I know in my case, the huge game load involved in keeping up with this pretty much prevented me from seriously participating in many other tournaments.

I was really hoping to go with some smaller events once this wraps up.

How about doing the same format, but do the top 50 most played maps, starting with #50? Would be done in a year, or make it every 2 weeks and it takes 2 years. You could also have a huge poll to determine which 50 maps they should be?

I am excited to be able to participate in the full event. I disagree with the above comments, as people aren't required to play it all and can come/go as they please, while nerds like I can play (and lose) them all.

I agree, as one of those nerds that played them all. Maybe the iteration period could be extended from 2 to 3-4 weeks which would buy some time to reduce game load and allow for breaks/holidays (and forgetting to join :?)

I think increasing the time between maps would be good too, but would the whole thing last like 4 years then? perhaps, we could increase the time between maps but crown a yearly winner or something, and an overall winner when it ends? or a prize for categories of maps that would be cool

No it would only extend it by a few weeks as a new map would still be introduced every week, but you would have more time to join it.

Amazing news! :D =D>
Got to keep all the maps. No messing around with that. If people find it too hard to play other tournaments at the same time, that's their problem. Not like it's much of a workload in reality.
The only change really would be to ban untouchable as he's too good

Several ideas.

---I like the Top 50 idea. Could select the 40 maps with the most games played in the previous year, with 10 slots open for public vote.

---As a way of separating the top players, take all the champions from each iteration, and run one more cycle with them to determine the overall champion for each map. More points plus bragging rights.

---Scoring. 1 point per win, and advancement points for making the next round.

---Points per tournament leaderboard and awards.

I like the idea of keeping the maps for another week or two as people can have real-life interference for a week or two.

He has been insanely consistent and good and if I’m not mistaking, he missed several early maps.

That would be the only change I would agree on, I think extending new map for an additional week should help.
Now, remembering the amount of PM I received from the first edition, players need to get the fact and look for new map coming out EVERY MONDAY!!! If you are an active player and with ongoing game(s) in general, then surely you login at least few minutes daily to make your turn, therefore it’s not complicated to check the central command banner and join the iteration that is open.

In fact I might grant this request ;)
I enjoyed a lot this event, but I plan to play much fewer tournaments from now on...
I hadn't noticed, but you're right: demy has a higher points to games ratio than me! Congrats to him =D>

round 1: half the field gets first action in 2 of 3 matches
round 2: it switches, those who were first to act in only 1, are now first to act in 2 of 3.
scores don't reset after round 2, top seed faces lowest remaining seed and gets advantage of first to act in 2 of 3 until final in which they get 3 out 5.

if you keeps the maps available for an extra week or two, maybe just add an additional one or two maps to quench the thirst of those who feel the need to have hundreds of games going at once.

and of course ban untouchable!

Thanks for agreeing to run a new rendition of this tournament. I like the idea of allowing a little extra time, and I also like the idea of calculating the per game stats. I'm a casual player and it will be hard to carry enough games to play all of the maps, but I might try and the extra time to join could be helpful.

I also like the idea of using the ranking from round 1 and 2 to set matches for round 3 (1v8, 2v7, 3v6, etc.), and then use round 3 rankings for round 4 also (1v4, 2v3).

Thanks again for running another round, I really look forward to playing these games every week. I started joining way too late to be a serious contender but would like to try next round.

Ok, have had this open for a while and read all the great comments. Thanks for the feedback. I think some of the main points that came up are as follows:

Run an abbreviated annual season vs a +/- 5 year event. I see benefits in both. I see some people are worried about the game load, while others think it is very manageable. Duk, also makes a great point about this event getting in the way of other events. Maybe for some that carry a light game load this is true. But I am not sure this has actually been tested as there really have not been a lot of events of late. I think this is something we need to work on to offer a variety to all. Overall I think the event was successful as a 5 year event and some people who missed out on the beginning really want another opportunity to start from the beginning. Therefore, I have a strong lean to run it again as a 5 year event.

Keeping tournaments open for 3-4 weeks. I think this can be done, though I have noticed that many towards the end took longer than that to fill.

Scoring and matchups. I would really like to see if I can figure out this grouping thing in the auto tournament. That way we can still have 3 games in round 1 and 2, but instead of facing the same opponent on all 3 games, we can have 3 different opponents each round. We can then reset the scores for round 3 and have seeded matchups on the results of the first 2 rounds. An average per tournament would be interesting. I would have to see how easy this would be.

Ban Untouchable. I agree 100%. He seems to insinuate he will do this himself, but we will see. His competitive fire might not allow him to this :D .

My thought would be a September start. Still open for discussion so please leave your thoughts. If we are going to do this for 5 years again, I want to get this right.

Auto-Tournament is not that smart and that was on my list to BW for years as to rewrite the automate from scratch, same for “balanced” start; if best of 3 then at least each player to start one game as opposed you could start all 3 games.

The way would be making like 8 players tournament and have it round robin with each player playing each other (7 games), or trying with 16 players (not sure automate can handle it) and tournament would run 15 rounds. With that said, new round (matchup) won’t start after all game completed, this could lead each tournament to last for a while despite each player playing one game at the time and no longer beat of 3 or 5.

EDIT: for 8 player tournament, the game load to be 7 games at once and not one at the time, for 16 players the game load to be 15 games in one shot.

Sorry I had to refresh my mind from all the testing I’ve done.

I had wanted to play in the OG but really had no interest because I missed so many maps.

Is there an adjustment that can be easily made maybe 1/2 through to allow for some late comers to play catch up?

Like if there are 10 iterations of map X then do 8-9 in the start and 1-2 mid way to allow for some late comers to not be knocked out? Especially over 4-5 years, if you’re 1-2 years late into it very little point

How difficult would it be to set up a leaderboard for "Average points per Tournament"?
