Why cooks with 400 points should be excluded from 1v1 tournaments.

Seriously, our game was over after one round, due to lucky drop and dice.

Standings

Post by dcc1220 »

If your sole goal is to move up the standings and earn points then you certainly shouldn't play in tournaments period. I play in tournaments because I enjoy them, they have killed my score however. :D

In the future, due to some complication in two different tournaments of mine, it will be a requirement for players to have a certain level of points in order to join, something such as 650 or 700. I don't think that would be unreasonable, and I don't think it will exclude too many players either.

I certainly hope that nobody is thinking of staying away from my tournaments just because of potential points lost. That would be tragic.

I'm not sure what I think right now. Tragic? Hyperbole, to be sure. Maybe such sentiment will prompt organizers (myself included) to organize better tournaments. A couple of points:

1. 1v1 games undoubtedly have a higher luck factor than 3-6 player games. The rolls in the first 2-3 rounds usually decide the game. It is much easier to win as a weaker player. I'm not saying Jake is a weak player - I honestly have no idea, other than to notice that to get down to 400 points is pretty hard to do.

2. Points have never been a consideration for me in joining tournaments. No captain would ever join tournaments, other than those with strict point requirements, if they were.

I'm not accusing anyone of joining for the sole purpose of gaining a boatload of points. I don't know if jake was thinking of that or not.
