Challenge.

I think one could make a valid case that pronto is slang.

I think one could make the case that 'pronto' is a valid part of the daily lexicon. And it's not slang, it's a word from another language that has firmly established its place in the english-speaking world.

I have a feeling that we might need to get a ruling on this one.

From dictionary.com :

pron·to /ˈprɒntoʊ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[pron-toh] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adverb Informal.
promptly; quickly.
[Origin: 1840–50, Americanism; < Sp (adj. and adv.) quick, quickly < L promptus prompt (adj.)]
Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1)
Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006.

Note the word "informal." I think I'm going to have to say that it's a slang term, not formal English.

Yeah, nice try. The wikipedia entry on the animal doesn't even use the word zoril, which means that it's a regional term for the striped polecat, and thus not a valid word. If nothing else, its validity in the lexicon is somewhat less than that of 'pronto.'

First off, you'll note that the wiki entry for zoril redirects to the striped polecat, so 'zoril' could definitely be considered a regional designation (more to the point, let's not pretend that the word 'zoril' has its own wikipedia entry). Second, like I said before, you can't in one breath say that 'pronto' shouldn't count because it's slang (widely used slang, at that), then in the next say that the regional name for an obscure animal in africa should count. Third, if the regional name for an obscure animal in africa does count, well then, shit, I'd say that throws open the doors to at least words from ancient history and quantum field theory. They're in the dictionary, right? They have wikipedia pages, right? And if that's the case, then Skoffin would've knocked you out with whatever hellenistic name she threw out there.

Given how this game has gone, I would say that the rules of precedent are against you.

Bah. I would totally argue against that, but other people want to play, nor to I wish to get into an argument that could last a long time, as I am plagued with lack of time, lack of energy, and apathy.

If the mod were to lay down the law, that's a different case entirely.

I wouldn't be surprised if 'zoril' was the name of a pokemon.
