Europe Map 2.0

Post by bryanbr »

I am redoing the Europe Map. There are a number of things I don't like about the current Europe Map.

1. It is too dark and dreary.
2. I don't care for the font.
3. I don't like how the obstacles were done. I'd prefer stylized mountains or forests that look more natural.

Here is an early version (needs more borders and textures):

Are you allowed to do that? I thought that to redo a map, you must have been the person who created it to begin with, or at least have there permission. It seems kinda rude to redo a map without the permission of TheGrimSleeper at least.

But after saying that, if you are to redo it i think the following needs to be done:
*Rename israel "the near east"
*Draw link between spain and morocco
*Fix the mountains
*Change the colour of mediterania
*Get rid of that circle decoration thing (what is that)
*Improve key
*Fix countries that have only one neighbour, so it would be Portugal and Estonia (In the original board game there is no country with only one neighbour

I am recreating the map entirely. The image above was not generated using grim's map. I found a map of europe on the internet and used it as the base.

What's more I'll be changing some things in the map, obstacles and sea roues.

The Europe map is my favourite non-classic map as it is.

Whether it's good or not, the Europe map shouldn't be messed with, it's not within your rights to replace it and its been said many time at conquerclub that having dublicate maps is stupid.

The Europe map is one of the best. It's a bit inappropriate to redo it.

I think if it was shit then it would be right to mess with it, but the thing is... it's not. It's one of the best maps out there.

i'm not a fan of the europe map either, but replacing it just because of that is not a smart move.

I agree. I like a lot the Europe map, and I believe we dont need another "improved" version. I would abandon this idea if I were you...
Maybe you could re-design, adding some art, the Middle East map. The Indochina one would need tons of work too... not Europe.

Well, the general opinion is that the current europe map shouldn't be replaced. If that's they way you guys feel, then I'll have agree with you. Consider this one withdrawn.

Ahh. Whats wrong with you, both the Indochina and Middle East maps are fine. I like there simplicity and cleaness. All the maps in CC cant be all complicated.

I think that the Brazil map needs a redo. It looks really really jagged and unrealistic. Also i think the crossword map needs to be redone, Jota has the skills now to redo the crossword map to perfection.

Sincerely, I can admit the Brazil map is not that good in visual. That was the possible in March, using paint and probably less than 20 opinions as feedback. However, I disagree about aspect of Middle East and Indochina being ok. The graphics of these simply suck. They wouldnt probably be quenched if we had the foundry in that ancient times.

Major flaw in the Europe Map

Post by bryanbr »

There is a major flaw in the current Europe map. The connection from Italy to Albania can only be seen with a magnifying glass.

That dosnt mean that you should redo the whole map. The map is fine how it is I think, its one of my favorites.

I agree. That's why I said a couple posts above that I was withdrawaling this map. But someone should fix this flaw.

It is a big flaw and can be exploited by experienced players. Almost a cheat.

So far so good.
However, the map is too old.
You should divide the Yugoslavia region (since Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia are divided), so that it makes sense.
Otherwise, this would be a fantasy map (considering that the breaking of Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia occured around the same time).

Please either change that, or return it to the old Cold War times.

P.S. Montenegro also became independant like a month ago, so you might wanna add that as well (though you can just make it part of Albania, to keep countries relatively big).
