A territory bounse at start!
I've played a couple games, and it just makes me upset because the other player already holds a territory. And to top it off, they start first too! So, in a other words their getting their regular 3 and bonus! what is that all about? I think if the other player starts off with a territory, the other player (without the territory bonus) should be able to go first!

Depends on the map. There are a lot of maps that only require 1-3 countries for the bonus. There are three 3-country continent in World 2.1, I've seen someone start with at least one of those in different games. WWII D-Day, where you can easily start off with a negative bonus. WWII Pearl Harbor is a big one on this - starting off with two planes is easy.

I'm not saying it is super uncommon or anything, I just mean it isn't so common you really expect it going into a game. I really haven't found the will to delve into the latest WWII theme maps yet (might have played one game on one map), so I'll concede to you on those.

Those were just examples. Here's some more, just eying the map list.
The gray continent in Benelux.
The kings - king of the mountains.
Either of the camps - Siege!
Downtown - Montreal
AAs - Pearl Harbor
Radiation nexi - USApocalypse
Allied Symbols - 8 Thoughts
cities - Italy
It just depends on the map really. When I start a 2.1 game, I brace myself for the possibility that someone could get Australia right off the drop. I am staggered if they have something like Mahgreb or Canada, because the odds for those are much higher.
It also depends on size. 3 countries out of 113 for W2.1 is different than 3 out of 18 (Africa) for Doodle Earth.

I like 8 thought a lot and I usually play 1v1, and it's not very uncommon to start with a +2 bonus for allied symbols, although I'm playing a game at the moment where the other guy got a +10 bonus off the bat, and got to play first, and of course I always start with a negative bonus that I can't get rid of in D-Day
It might be wise to deny all first round bonuses so no-one is in an unfair advantage right off the start.

The fact that you can gain an advantage is random.
The fact that the person with the advantage usually wins isn't random, thats just the consequence of starting with an advantage.
yeah i don't play them for that reason I've played 3 and lost 3 due to bad drops and dice. Too much random luck in them and my dice are bad as it is.
But I know what you mean regarding everyone attacking. I'm still paying the price for gaining the upper hand early on in games I've learned my lesson now...

I was in a Benelux game where TWO players (one myself) held a continent at the start. I held the gray stuff in the middle, another player had Luxemburg complete.
Neither me nor the Luxemburg guy won it.
