Tie Breakers
When ever you have season games and then atournament you will mostlikly run into a tie record. I use the who ever wins the quickest method (meaning rounds). What about you?

I typically use something similar to the NFL Tie Breaker (Meaning I split the players into Conferences and then Divisions).
Tie Breaker order:
1. Most Points Earned (typical way of doing standings)
2. Head to Head match-ups (if any)
3. Division Records
4. Conference Records (if inter-conference play)
5. Most Road Games won
6. Record vs. Common Opponents
7. Strength of Victory (your # of round method)

Aerial Attack's idea of tie-breakers is a pretty good way of handling something, especially if you are looking to run a league style tournament. Other commons ways that I have seen include:
1. total number of wins
2. total number of wins from the previous round
3. total number of points from the previous round
and many others along the same lines. It mostly depends upon the style of tournament you are running. I have found that my tie-breakers tend to be a little different depending on each tournament I run.
Of course, this forum would always be a great place to get some feedback on your proposed tie-breakers for a new tournament you would like to run in the future.

This is only fair when everybody plays exactly the same conditions. In tournaments will home-settings you can't take the fastest win, as the conditions influence the length of a game.
I usually use head-to-head when it's a league style, and a play-off if head-to-head doesn't give a conclusion. When it's a league with all games having the same setting, then fastest game is an option also.
In point-based tournaments I always use points from previous round(s) when there is a tie, and when that is equal a play-off.
