Not sure I can blame him for that.
Does anyone ever want to be wrong?

That's exactly what I was wondering when I saw Vlaar was going first. I didn't say anything because I don't know him and he might be excellent at penalty kicks. First penalty kick is always key. You have Robben, Sjneider, Huntelaar, Kuyt, why Vlaar?

According to Van Gaal, two players chickened out and refused to take the first one.. he didn't mention who they were though!

Sneijder missed his as well anyway, so it s a sterile debate.

Mmm no it's not sterile.

The best or maybe the second best is normally used for the first penalty kick for a reason. It can determine the mental moment. But now I know that it isnt van Gaal's fault. Sometimes the player doesnt feel with the confidence to start, but you should expect the best to have the balls. It speaks poorly of those 3 I mentioned. Something tells me Robben and Sjneider declined, knowing Huntelaar I doubt he would have passed.

To be honest I'm still not over those 5 minutes and I think I will never be. These players had much more to give. I criticized The US vs Germany for not doing cheap things to keep the result but Mexico didnt do them either.

Mexico will have better teams as more players are going to Europe every year, but i dont think we will have a crush on another group of players like we had in this WC.

Well, there was the Group game between Netherlands and Spain which I consider also quite memorable.

Regarding the Germany / Argentinia stats, it looks as follows
WC Quarter Final 2006: GER / ARG 5:3 penalties
Test Match 2010 GER / ARG 0:1 (0:1)
WC Quarter Final 2010 ARG / GER 0:4 (0:1)
Test Match 2012 GER / ARG 1:3 (0:1)

Regaring the 2010 Test Match which ARG won in March 2010, there is a funny annecdote during a post-game press conference where Diego Maradonna (at that time the Argies coach) sees Thomas Müller join the conference and mistakes him for a fan crushing the conference. Maradonna then leaves the conference.

The Vid is in German, but still funny to watch

Müller then scored the first of 4 goals in minute 3 of the July 2010 Quarter Final, ending Maradonna's coaching career.

As for Maradonna, I think a coach should know the opposing team's players ;)

seriously pirlo.....
1) vlaar touches it again, the ball isn't in play after the shot as during a game
2) the ball doesn't even fully cross the line
3) holland misses another penalty anyway

And yet you watched anyway. So... soccer wins!
Also, you must have missed yesterday's game. Unless you consider 4 goals in 6 minutes "boring".

Bollocks.

What are you idiots even doing here? Talking about "soccer" here? Get it through your thick head that it's called football.

I've used both interchangeably, depending on who I'm talking to. I'll make sure to always call it soccer when talking to you. Get it through your thick head that it's called soccer in my country. Just like we call your country Sweden, not Sverige.

Bollocks.

Horrible analogy, my country is called "Sverige" in a different language, this sport is called football in the same language you are typing in. I couldn't care less what it's called in your crap country, in the language English the sport is called football, if you want to speak English you should use the correct words.

It's far too easy for me to troll you. I don't even have to try.

Haha, I see I successfully trolled you into thinking I didn't think you were trolling me, it is actually you dear sir who have been trolled.

Mexican TV replayed the entire Germany/Brazil match late last night. I suppose they just wanted to relive the memory while it's still fresh.
GOOOOOOOOL!

Watching most of this years World Cup matches I think football coaching lacks focused effort and the evolution of the game creeps along at a snail's pace. Then again maybe that's because players don't have the cerebral capacity to embrace the mental aspects of the game.

That's not Mexican TV. YOu're talking about Univision right? That station seems very Americanish to us. They're like clowns.

That one it's even more Americanish. They do broadcast some telenovelas but it also has more SouthAmerican content as I recall.

wow this is absolutely the worst ref of the tourney. he managed to f*ck up each and every decision he had to take. he gave yellow cards when there was no need for cards, gave a yellow when he should have given a red, he gave a penalty when there was none, he gave a yellow for a simulation when there was a penalty, he whistled fouls for legit interventions, allowed a goal from offside. wow. a real mess.

And that's saying quite a lot, as anyone will tell you.

This tournament clearly showed that FIFA urgently needs to take a good, long, look at the way matches are officiated ans seriously consider scrapping it and starting over.
So, of course, they'll just pretend everything's fine and not change anything - or listen to anyone.

How does that make it OK?
I'd say I don't follow your logic, but I'm not sure there is any there.
