#2 - Actually reminds me of Babylon.
Re: World Cities Contest: Pick your favourite London Map!
I just got a new monitor, and suddenly I wish I could change my vote. Makes you think... a lot of what we think looks "good" or "bad" has more to do with our local settings or equipment than what the artist actually put there.

World Cities Contest: Phase Three
Hi Foundry Goers,
Now we have just 3 maps, each one representing a different city of the world, London, Dubai and Istanbul.
You have the opportunity to choose which one of these 3 maps should be crowned the winner of the World Cities Contest and thus be worthy to join the other maps available for play on ConquerClub, obviously after a short trip into the Final Forge.
So, going further....let me show you again the maps:
LONDON

DUBAI

ISTANBUL
LONDON

ISTANBUL
[bigimg]http://wcforums.org/foundry/WCC/istanbulcityl.jpg[/bigimg]
The poll will run for a week, everyone can vote just for one map and the vote can't be changed, when submitted.
May the best map win!

Re: World Cities Contest: Phase Three
I had to vote London, even though I'd be fine if none of these was a CC map.
London is meh, it doesn't grab me and make me want to play it.
Dubai is a nice idea, but just too hard to look at.
I like the look of Istanbul, but I don't like the tilt to it, I think that it's too much and makes it too hard to read.

This got my vote - even though there is a little bit too much tilt to the map (which can be easily rectified later)

While I admit Istanbul is a pretty map, I think I'd enjoy the gameplay on London much better.

can you fit your head any further up nattys butt ? haha. And how in the hell can a Cook know anything about gameplay ? Man, this place has really evolved into a joke. Its "Lord of the flies", I tell ya.Victor Sullivan wrote:While I admit Istanbul is a pretty map, I think I'd enjoy the gameplay on London much better.

But all friendly joking aside, where has all the talent gone to, in the Foundry ? This place used to produce far superior stuff than it has thrown out there lately.

Over-compensating, perhaps?

Not really sure exactly what you mean by "old establishment", I have not been around here much at all, lately.AndyDufresne wrote:Pork, I can't believe I hear what you are saying---you sound like you are part of the old establishment now. Haha

Just voicing some observations banana man. I am not trying to act "cliquish" or anything.
The fact as I see it is, Most or all of the decent map makers are AWOL. As a result we are being asked to pick from some real turdballs masquerading as quality maps. Cooks are heading up GP, and as far as I can tell, there is not much competence here, as there once was.

Where can I play these masterpieces of yours? How many maps have you finished? Must be tons, seeing as you're such an artistic genius. I'm a bit lazy, I don't want to search the map page, so can you just point out which of the maps in play are yours?

Please guys, STOP this nonsense talking NOW!
Honestly I'm a really tired to read this type of things on each contest thread. Perhaps our mapmakers are a little too touchy?
Guys, if you want to play a "mine is bigger than yours" game, can I suggest you both to use private messages? I think that no one here wants to read again and again and again these bullshit.

Please do not lump me in with natty. HE is interpreting my criticism as being directed towards himself. He can not handle the perceived critique, so he tries to turn this in to one of his little pissing contests by bringing up my maps.thenobodies80 wrote:Please guys, STOP this nonsense talking NOW!

My post is clearly on topic and brings up a valid observation. it is along the same lines of thought that have been mentioned in this thread by some veteran Foundry folk.
ps- natty lighten up, my criticism is true and does not carry any sort of belligerence, or malice. If you feel personally attacked by my comments, sorry.

Re: World Cities Contest: Phase Three
I don't think the entries are all that bad. I rather like the Istanbul one especially. I mean, the tilt is a little too intense, as other have said. But the concept is there.
Natty's london map is good too. i like the contrast between black and white and color. I like the photo and illustration contrast as well. Other's have said its too much contrast, but I think its good. I mean, the London skyline is distinctive and a map can have trouble conveying the cultural and architectural feel of a city. This does it well.
I also like the Dubai map, simply because its such a radical and unique approach. I think it fell a little short on the execution, but the styling is brilliant.
So yeah, I see no turdbuckets or whatever here. I'm quite happy with the entries.
