Re: Server Downtime and Data Loss
Thanks for the fix. I also appreciate the transparency in the issue including the notification on the home page when the server crashed.. A little information goes a long way

Thanks for all the hard work. For all who are frustrated by life's rude behavior sometimes, try to remember that these are actual people doing their best. Even if their best is not as good as it could theoretically be, it is no reason to lambaste them. Thanks for the hard work.

Come on guys.......stop measuring whether the missing data resulted into negative or positive outcome. Life goes on and we are waiting to take your turns to leave all this behind. Shit happens and for sure the admin team of CC had a rough night. They have been doing a great job all these years. So, let dices roll again!

Good work, guys. It must've been chaotic. Thanks for getting it sorted, keeping damage to a minimum and keeping us informed as soon as practicable.

Re: Server Downtime and Data Loss
That's tough and frustrating. A very real threat in business. A standby environment with real time back up is advisable. There are very affordable ways to accomplish this these days and would be happy to assist you .
Thank you for communicating and good job bringing it back up.

Re: Server Downtime and Data Loss
Good job at keeping a relatively recent backup. I don't think it's that bad.
A week extension seems a bit fairer for the premium members, but that's just my opinion. I'm a freeloader now, so I appreciate the speed games!

Re: Server Downtime and Data Loss
i don't remember much of yesterday so we have something in common. I did take some terrible turns and ran into big stacks everywhere i went. Does this mean I get a do-over on yesterday? Groundhog Day all over again, woohoo!
Re: Server Downtime and Data Loss
i don't remember what tournaments i created games in. i will now have to check every one and compare the Game Finder results to my spreadsheets and brackets on Challonge.
not a big deal, planned on doing that anyway
thanks for the prompt fix.

Which option is fairest?
1. Win the game
2. Lose the game
3. Request from TO to replay the game
I think option 3 is the the golden section, but i need some opinions, especially from administrators.
play the game before you.

This is the important part.
Not really. It just means he can't walk them through step-by-step on how to fix it. He was still spot on about the failure.
That's pretty presumptuous. I also do not know what happened, what the state was, etc. I choose to believe that the admins did all they could to restore the system in a reasonable amount of time. That's the critical part. I'm sure that they may have been able to recover almost everything, but it may have taken days or weeks. I, for one, appreciate the decision to bring back the system as quickly as they did. This is NOT a financial system with SOX compliance, there's no critical medical data stored, no one is going to suffer some horrible fate because of the rollback.
TheProwler made some assumptions that I haven't seen verified. Do you know what the IT budget is? Are you assuming they have the resources for a real-time multi-colo snapshot backend system? Do you know what the issue was? I'm sure that for any complex system that you design, if I have enough information about the components and how they interact, that I can hypothesize a failure scenario where you'll be lucky to be able to recover from tape. It's all a question of how much resources can be devoted to maintaining operational uptime. You can do a lot with an infinite budget, but I assume that's not the case.
