The curtain is nice, but the title with the stars is WAY better in my opinion. Fits the map a little more if you ask me.

I like the stars. Maybe could it look better if the stars didn't lose opacity as they become smaller?

One other quick point, you have the Slavic/Balkan states (which are out of play area) divided into the modern boundaries, but post-WWII that region was one entity under the name Yugoslavia.
Good look,i dont notice that,

rjbeals,quick fix that.
SFRJ-SOCIJALISTICKA FEDERATIVNA REPUBLIKA JUGOSLAVIA,they exist more then Warsaw Pact.

what's with the five territories that aren't part of any bonus region?
what's with the northwest part of the minimap (all those names)?
sorry if you mentioned this but I didn't see you say anything about it (maybe it was in a previous update that I missed).
I like the stars better

Those are part of the bonus regions, it's just RjBeals attempting to provide some slight variation around country borders to appease qwert.

Stars, but I suggest a fade in intensity near the territory name. Also, standardize the text spacing (horizontally) on Curtain, it's a little messed up right now. Also with the stars, you have space to stick a very badass hammer and sickle on or near the 3rd star.

No offense, but I think qwert is being too picky. Czechoslovakia and E. Germany are not big enough (on this map) to warrant distinction. They only have 2 territories each. Either just call the bonus "Poland" or come up with a more general name for the region, but using "E. Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland" is too long, and unnecessary. You have one region called "Moscow", maybe you could just call this region "Warsaw" since Warsaw was one of the most important cities during this time period (you know, Warsaw Pact and all).
Also, you have some of the borders drawn in the minimap which makes it confusing as to whether or not those territories are part of the bonus (Moldova, and the aforementioned E. Germany and Czech regions).

About materialising the iron curtain, maybe you can draw the western border something like a barbedwire fence -x-x-x-. Churchill give it's name but eastern block build it.
I like the differentiated shade inside Germany,... but the thick border line can be confusing. Why not trying a dotted one.
I'm also voting for the hammer/sickle comeback.
Edit:
The stars title is graphically better but a bit too "American". As said before the curtain is more in theme. Don't you have something else in your bottomless surprise bag ?

Have to agree with most of you that stars look graphically great and better though as I'm against using soviet symbols (and red star is definitely one of the strongest of them) then I would vote for the curtain.
Also, when to think of it, the fence that you have in one of your versions - it was perfect. I liked how it symbolised that Soviet Union was like a prison and all the countries/people behind the iron curtain were there because they were forced to and not because of their free will (but hey, that might be just my vision).

Some historical/spelling mistakes that I noted. I presume it is 1946..
TERS
1 Gor'kii, not Nizhnij Novgorod
2 Lipetsk, not Liptesk
3 Bahskiria, not Baskortostan
4 Moldovia, not Basarabia (and it just joined USSR, btw)
5 Kalinin, not Kalanin
CONTINENTS
6 Stalingrad, not Volgorad
7 Sverdlovsk, not Svedlovsk
8 Komi, not Kori
9 Arkhangelsk, not Arkhanegelesk
It is in the spirit of the original game to use various geographical entities while naming territories but name continents carefully. I suggest you reconsider names of continents...

Come on guys... the curtain looks a million times better that the stars...
Perhaps you could use the Curtain as the background for the Churchill speech if you choose to go for the stars?

i don't want to say that the stars or the curtain are bad but they are much worse than the title graphics you had here:
http://www.rjbeals.com/ironcurtain/Iron ... Rev-09.jpgthis is the best title so far and it would be a shame to see it lost

in my opinion it should be like the title in the image above and instead of the scroll use a manifesto-type thing for top left corner and place the Churchill text there.
or use the curtain graphics and place the churchill text on that, but whatever you do don't give up on the old title graphics. they're top notch

Yeah, not a fan of the stars. They overwhelm the top of the map, and that wee island terit (whose name is in some heathen language that I don't know and thus I can't remember said name and can't be assed to look back a page and find it) gets completely lost in the shuffle.
That being said, I'm not sure the curtain's the way to go either.
I was never a big proponent of the gate, but like a couple of others have already said, it's better than the current options.

Just some quick points:
- Baltic Republics have 5 territories, can be attacked from 4, and yield a +2 bonus. Rostov has 7 territories, can be attacked from 3, and yields a +4 bonus. Admittedly, Rostov is harder to get initially, but much easier to hold. Maybe review the balance of bonuses?
- Basarabia is by itself on the mini-map, yet looks like it's part of the continent Hungary + Romania?
- Mini-map may weel need more difference in the colour scheme, notably lightness/darkness, as the main map will be very hard to make out with colour-blindness in certain places.
Looking great though, can't wait for the quench

After discussion with RjBeals, this map has been
moved into temporary retirement.
When you're ready to get going again, let one of the CAs know and we'll throw you back into the Foundry

I'm going to start my focus on something besides maps. Maybe something that could bring me some income.

killing-44 is has asked to continue development on this map, and I've given him my photoshop file to have a go at it. I'm not going to continue it, so why not let him. If the map ever gets quenched, the map achievement award is his as well. Good Luck.
