round represented in game chat

it would be nice, if it also showed the round in which someone made a comment in the game chat. i know i've said things that were pertinent to a round, and didn't matter the next, and it would be helpful to see what round that was said.

You might want to start a thread in Sugs & Bugs using the appropriate form, this doesn't belong in C&A.

Moved to Suggs & Bugs. Please fill out the form so that it is easier for everone to follow:

first of all, i thought this is "sugs and bugs". see, at the top, the path is: board index < general < sggstions & bug reports. i don't know where else this would go...
and why does everything have to be "filled out to the form". christ, it's a very simple idea. add the round to the date and time, so that we know which round everyone says things in. sheesh....

You had originally posted this thread in Cheating & Abuse, that is where I moved this from. As to the form, it is so that everything in the forum is standardized. It is easier to look at the form and see what someone is asking for than it is to read through any random person's (sometimes page-long) posts and try to decipher what the request is.

This does sound like a good idea. Database side would probs only needs an extra field "round_num" for the chat table.
i shall put it in the requested form format *add if you thought it was some thing else*
Concise description:
Round number either prefixing or suffixing the chat time
Full explanation:
The round number appear along side the date/time in the chat area of the game. this will help with misunderstandings of directions given for rounds
How it would help the site:
As above, but overall as i see it, it is just another step forward to improve the UI

It's been suggested for, and I believe the consensus then was that it would be redundant and just clutter the Chat Log.

When it was originally suggested, there was to be a new line in the chat log that told when each new round began (like in the game log)

I like this suggestion, just a short number added on to the chat.
If no one uses the form, I will....

Threads merged:
Round Number in Chat Log - posts 8 & 9 April 2008
round represented in game chat - posts since 2 September 2008
The first thread of the original thread includes the form.

Completely disagree with this point of view.

Add Round Number to Chat Log

by NightWolf
Concise description:- Add round number tags to game chat log.
Specifics/Details:- One idea would be to add the round number into the time stamp of comments or "chat" in the chat log for a game.
- Or, if that is too much to ask for, you could add a timestamp as the first "comment", and then add a subsequent one before each new comment that starts on a round on which no one made any comments that day. If someone comments on a day that has not been stamped with a round number, if you will, then the current round number will be printed immediately before the new comment is posted.
How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:- Adding this feature will make it easier to recreate the timeline of the game quickly by being able to quickly see which rounds the players made which comments. It can be cumbersome to look through a game log that might have more than 100 rounds just to see which round a comment was made in to collaborate a story in the case of an argument or disagreement.
- Implementing this idea would make it easier to create truces or alliances in a game where they are created legally (no secret diplomacy). If we can stamp the round numbers in to coincide comments, then we wouldn't have to look through a bulky game log to look back and figure out which round a truce / alliance in a game started, so that keeping terms for such an agreement will become much easier e.g. instead of saying which round the agreement ends, you can say how long you want it to last. So in that case, you can see directly which round the agreement was agreed upon, and then see which round it will end on quickly by looking at the current round number.
Lastly, I don't know if this change would fit well with games that have already started / been archived, but if you guys really like the idea, I would still want it to be given time to float around, instead of being thrown into the rejected bin. Anyways, I would like to see what you guys think!

I can see the benefit of this. Although occasional, I do need to look through the full game log to see what people were talking about in the chat.
