I really really like the idea of replays. a remark on the quoted part: if you can, have it available for downloading before deleting.lackattack wrote:Game Log 2.0
* logs will be deleted on old games to make room for all these dice rolls
Personally: In a replay I'm not that interested in dice-rolls; just who owns what land.

game history
i would like to be able to see game histories. i'm sick of getting eliminated in games i haven't had a turn in in several days, and not having any idea about how the person ever got enough armies to wipe me out.

I know what he's talking about
The game log isn't detailed enough. If you have 12 men on a country, and someone takes 8 of them, the log doesn't reflect that. It just says who deployed what on a country. If a person attacks a country, but does not get it, the log should show how many men were lost by both players.

yes, that sounds good. I would like a log of all attacks instead of all countries taken. And also, maybe something like how many in the countries invovled.
so instead of _____ takes indonesia from _______
you get
The Armadillo loses 15 men to the 2 defenders in indonesia before taking it from some lucky guy

game board history
I know that a more detailed game log is in the works. However, I would like to see a game history board. Where I could click on it and see the how the map looked after every turn. So, when a game is over, I can go back and look at how I started, and how the winner started and learn from there. Just a thought.
I'd like to see summary of battles
I think there's a middle path between the current log reporting of battles (announce successful takeovers, be silent on unsuccessful takeovers) and reporting every die roll (as is proposed at XML level for Game Log 2.0). The middle path is:
1. report unsuccessful takeovers as well as successful
2. for each battle, report how many armies on each side were lost.
I think this is important tactical information. For instance, I'd like to know when people are nibbling at my border defenses.
For example:
Alice (Fordlindon, 7 armies, 3 lost) attacked Bob (Harlindon, 1 armies, 1 lost), conquering it. 4 armies advanced.
Alice (Harlindon, 4 armies, 3 lost) attacked Bob (The Shire, 13 armies, 0 lost), failing to conquer.
Comments?

Good idea. Often you are not sure how many armies you lost and what happened to armies from players they deployed somewhere but didn't take over a territory. This way you at least will see which territory they attacked.

Mention Failed Attacks In Gamelog?
It would be nice to know what all of the others players moves were. The game log could say something like, "johnnybrotten attacked Iceland from Greenland and lost 5 armies". The way it currently is, a team-member or opponent may unsuccessfully attack me and I might not necessarily notice. It would definately make the game more like a real-life boardgame experience.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

Advanced game history
Right now the game history records only the successful attacks, the deployment of troops and the reinforcements made. The fact that failed attacks and the number of armies lost per battles are not recorded makes the games impossible to track back. This is why I suggest a new advanced history log to make game analysis possible. Of course a visual playback of any game would be the stuff of dreams as it would allow a steeper learning curve for all the new recruits (myself included) and would improve the overall skill of all the players involved.
