And yeah, if some of the bite in Questions & Answers and Strategy were removed, people would have to ask those questions again, but it seems like we'd lose a lot of good info that way. I for one wish the Strategy forum were more active. There are so many maps out there without guides, and a lot of the guide writers have left.

Why would anyone throw away their advantage in a map for practically zero return?

Altruism is dead, CC and cynicism killed it.

I'd blame the bogan gods for this failure, Gary.

I will let you into a little secret, the Highlander movies were loosely based on Bogan celestial machinations. There can be only ONE. I am. I was. I will be. There are no Bogan Gods, there is just me. BoganGod.

Why do chess grandmasters take on pupils? Why does an actor take on an understudy? Why do experts in any field write articles? If one genuinely loves something, one wants to see the quality of it improve. That is why one tries to communicate ideas to others, in any field. (And yeah, some people do it for financial gain, which in some fields is possible. But in most arts one has to be doing it for the love of the craft.)

It's not necessarily altruism, although it can be. But if one loves an activity, one wants to see it thrive, and for that one has to help others get good at it. That can be a very self-interested thing.

For sure, Duk, though I don't know if I buy into this bizarre idea rightwing ideologues like BBS propose that altruism and self-interest are in opposition to each other. I'm really proud to see how many people have read the strategy guides I contributed to. Insofar as those guides make up a part of people's knowledge of CC, and have encouraged players to try out new maps, and have contributed to players' enjoyment on here, I'm really glad of the time I gave to working on them. I've particularly enjoyed though when other guide writers have praised or thanked me for input.

Sure, people teach people in their clans/select groups, but it doesn't follow that they'll copy-paste everything into the public.
