Funny....I relate very strongly to the Irish
In a few years my grown kids will be fully gone. The community I live in I chose 35 years ago for the purpose of raising kids. Once they're gone, I'm thinking hard on leaving - if you're really bored, look up West Linn, Oregon
I have property in central Oregon that's high desert - I'll probly go build my dream mankave barndo there, but I love the idea of someplace gun friendly, legislation wise. Idaho is probly the best bet but prices are higher...
I'll probably fucking kick before any of that anyway
Fun to dream....
WEATHER - Still rainy off and on but gonna be nice by Monday, when we'll be at the coast for 4 days....beach cookie time!

And grandchildren, if you are so blessed, will change the "equation" imo.
And I have no desire to move out of the USA, and no desire to move from my current location. We have too many ROOTS here.
Typical March weather here for Central VA; Temps in the near 70 F here today for a high 42 F now; LOTS of POLLEN. Rain perhaps on Monday. AND, I think ConfedSS said it; first day of Spring on 3/20.

Yeah, I always wanted to retire to the south Island of New Zealand, or Tasmania, or Patagonia, maximize my chances of surviving a nuclear war (which will be fought mostly in the Northern latitudes) or global warming (which will mostly hurt the Middle latitudes.)
But I'm getting older now and realize I might very well die of natural causes before the assholes in Peking or Washington manage to wipe out life on earth. I might end up staying right here in Niagara.

WoW, Duk. I did not realize how close you are to Buffalo, NY and the USA.
I assume that you are back from your Texas Road Trip, too. So that is the END of your GOOD stories "South of the border" and "South of that border" right?

Yeah, of 62 years on Earth, 57 have been lived in Canada, and of those 57, 48 have been lived somewhere in the Niagara Region.jusplay4fun wrote:WoW, Duk. I did not realize how close you are to Buffalo, NY and the USA.![]()
Of the 48, I spend four years in Fort Erie (literally in sight of the Peace Bridge and Buffalo) and another 12 years in Niagara Falls, about 3 or 4 miles from the border there.
Oh yeah, been back for a while. My visit with TX was the last update.jusplay4fun wrote:I assume that you are back from your Texas Road Trip, too. So that is the END of your GOOD stories "South of the border" and "South of that border" right?
I still have lots of stories from earlier trips, lol.

Re: What is the Weather outside your Window?
Crazy weather: many storms in the Midwest and Kentucky and area. Prayers for those suffering.
https://apnews.com/article/us-weather-f ... acf494c96b
Locally in VA, temps have been in the 80s F (27+ C) the past few days but a low of 31F (-.056 C) in a few days. I am glad I checked before planting outside in my garden. I did plant some lettuce and herbs, but I can bring in those small pots. LOTS of POLLEN, too; a "yellow storm" here.
I also planted roses at my Church on Friday, but they should be okay. I need to water them the first week. I learned as I was planting them that I need to find Alfalfa Meal. If I cannot find that soon locally (I already tried 3 places earlier on Saturday), I will need to get that from the Big "A" (Amazon).

Re: What is the Weather outside your Window?
Temperatures now consistently in the 70s and 80s for high temps. It was 88 F (31 C) last week. It will cooler this week. The pollen has been really bad here. I went on a bicycle ride on Sunday, 4/27, and the pollen really irritated my eyes. They felt like grit in my eyes.
We got beneficial rain yesterday; it was the first significant rainfall in some time, perhaps over 14 days ago.

The UK has announced that it will undertake Solar Shading this summer in order to fight climate change.
The UK government plans to block out the sun.
The UK government is also paying huge subsidies to farmers to plant Solar Panels on their land instead of crops, to fight climate change.
So, solar shading and solar panels on a predominantly cloudy Island in the North Atlantic.

Re: What is the Weather outside your Window?
Rain, mostly on and off, since Sunday, and more Rain tonight is possible. Odd weather Front keeps rain is in our Forecast (here in Central VA). Temps rather cool, too, with Highs in the 70s most days. BUT the heat will be here TOO SOON.
I enjoy Temps in the 70s for a HIGH; NOT in the 90s plus humidity and not in the 20s or 30s.
SORRY no Celsius conversions NOW.

Re: What is the Weather outside your Window?
Unusually cool in VA at this time of year in Late May. It is usually at least near 85 F and higher; there is lots or rain and showers, too. For me, this means it is great to try to improve my lawn and plant vegetables in my "hobby garden."

The dog encountered a skunk in the back yard this morning.
The air is intolerable.

Duk, I think I heard that tomato juice can help with the odor on your dog.Dukasaur wrote:The dog encountered a skunk in the back yard this morning.

As our cool, rainy weather here continues. I am so glad that I got grass seed, zoysia plugs, and transplants done over the past few weeks. I need to plant zucchini soon. The cool weather may explain why the cucumbers I planted about 2 weeks ago are doing so badly. The ones I planted about one month ago are doing FINE.

Summer heat and humidity has arrived in Central VA. Time to stay indoors in the hot afternoons now, as much as possible.
And with temps in the 90s F, my cucumbers and yellow squash are being harvested from my small "hobby" garden.

Re: What is the Weather outside your Window?
Summer heat and humidity have RETURNED in Central VA. Time to stay indoors in the hot afternoons now, as much as possible. We expect temps in the upper 90s F (35+ C) over the next week, started on July 25. With our humidity, it FEELS like 100-105 F (about 40 C). I went from Philadelphia and Richmond in the upper 90s on June 23 and arrived to a "heat wave" in Scotland near 70 F (23 C)...!
Both Ireland and Scotland were in the range of 60-72 F for highs and only fell into the 50s overnight. The weather was very pleasant. There was a constant threat of rain, but we experienced only mist and drizzle.
Both Ireland and Scotland were in the range of 60-72 F for highs and only fell into the 50s overnight. The weather was very pleasant. There was a constant threat of rain, but we experienced only mist and drizzle.
The other surprise was the length of the Day, with only some 7 hours of darkness, since we were so far North (57.6 degrees N in Nairn, Scotland, vs. 37 degrees latitude in VA). Nairn was basically our farthest point North on our travels to both Ireland and Scotland.[AI Overview, for July 26, today:
The weather in Scotland today is mostly cloudy with a high of 61°F (16.1°C) and a low of 48°F (8.9°C). There is a chance of some light rain showers by lunchtime and the temperature will feel like 60°F (15.6°C). ]
AI: Here's a breakdown of the typical day length in Scotland by season:
Summer (June, July, August): Scotland experiences very long days with up to 18 hours of daylight around the Summer Solstice (June 21st). In fact, in the northern parts of Scotland, it might not get truly dark, but rather remain in a state of twilight throughout the entire night.
