i like the book and i've read it as well, dante organizes territories into circles where the territories on the outside would be bigger which would make them worth more, however that is contradicting the fact that the devil is down there in the middle doing his demon thing, so i don't think this map would be the greatest idea...sry to break it to u

Sorry I haven't posted an update in a little while, but my internet's been problematic
I haven't worked much on the map, but I'll throw out a concept on the so-called "3d map" everyone thinks is a good idea and see if it's alon the right lines.
Also, Lupo, for the love of god, can you remove the giant picture you added in? Just link it or something, but I have to scroll 6 inches to either side to read anything on this page because of it

Well, here's the ringed version everybody wanted. I still haven't named anything, and the borders are just down as an example (something nobody seemed to understand on my last draft), and I'm open for suggestions
I may have a bit of trouble throwing in the list of "continents," but I'll sort it all out eventually

You should make circle nine have at least four (Caina, Ptolomea, Anatolia {forgot spelling}, Judecca, and/or Satan).
Are you going to make sequels? Purgatorio and Paradiso would be really cool.

It's hard to tell without continents. Are each of the rings going to be continents? If so i don't think this map will work.

If you want to contact the author you'd need a medium. Date died 1321 AD.

Each ring would be a continent, yeah. 9 might seem like a little much, but they would each have small bonuses.
I'm going to have to rework this map, anyways, because Photoshop pulled an Adobe and crapped out on me. It won't be hard to get it up like that again... I just need actual feedback on it

The ringed version is terrible, both visually and about playability (ALL territories are borders). The version with satanic graphics was much more interesting, dont you think?

Apparently you and I are the only ones who think so.

Drop the rings, do the first one...

No, I also agreem I just think the first one needs lots of working on too. The rings could be used to divide it somehow, but not in a strict manner as you've done with the second map. My problem is the first is just a bunch of pictures.

The first was a bunch of pictures because it was still a rough draft. Crap, I'm just dropping it because nobody seems to read the posts I put along with the pics.

This is a great idea, but I think people are wanting to see a more finished map. You could obviously make this map look cool with drawings of the sins or the tortures they must endure, and it would be cool to attack "The Seducers", BUT you need to work out how the map plays as well as how it looks.
I think the descending circles is the way to go. Generally laid out with semi-circles like your 2nd (and very colorful) draft, but I think you should still hand draw everything like in your first draft. Maybe nine rings = nine continents, but I wouldn't be afraid to combine some rings if it will play better. Also, areas don't all have to be side by side in each ring.
Maybe other unique features... some countries can only attack down into the pit; some stairs connecting only certain parts of the rings (not everything connects)...
This could be an amazing map to look at and to play, but it is just so early it is hard for most to see it, I think.
Hand draw the rings and work your previous drawings into them.

It's about time someone said something other than "UMMM WAT LOL"
Actually, the drawings were from another map of the Inferno, which I wanted to use, but I couldn't get ahold of the author
I do have a friend who I was thinking of snagging into it, though
As for your ideas on unique areas- I had planned something like that, but I have a problem deciding balance. I'm sure that could be worked out by suggestion, but that's definitely the part I'd have to save for last
I'm also thinking of grouping at least two or three of the rings together because of size and space issues. As it stands now, it'd be too difficult to squeeze in the continent bonuses and such, and I'd definitely want to use a different set of colors (like a more decided red, yellow, and blue, for example).
I'm sure I can find some good free images and photoshop them (the seducers might be pretty easy to do, for example

), since it might be a bit too much trouble to ask a friend to do 40 pieces of art.
Any other suggestions are more than welcome. I'm going to try to spice up the map with a bit of good effects (like more interesting borders) and try to do it without anything special like hand-drawn art for the time being

I love the concept, and I'd play it as often as possible, just because it's the Inferno. I'm wondering if you slid Satan into a corner, if that would give you more room to work in the rings. Circles 7 & 8 are the largest, so they could run diagonally across the map.
As far as continents, you could make it 4 continents: 1 for sins of passion (lepord, circles 1-5) sins of intention (lion, circles 6&7) sins of deciet (she-wolf, circles 8&9) and satans lair (which is technically part of she-wolf, but who's counting?)
For art, Gustave Dore did a bunch of B&W images on the inferno, and I'm pretty sure he's open copyright at this point. They might fit into the overall mood of the work.

Thanks, I'll definitely check up on Dore's work. I had actually thought of grouping them by the general type of sin (or the beast they're associated with), but I thought it'd end up being too few continents.
And good suggestion for sticking Satan in the corner, but no matter what the layout will take tweaking
This will be a difficult map to do and save space just because of the very nature of the concept
I'd also have to work on a smooth, ice-looking texture for Satan's lair, 'cause, you know, the whole sheet-of-ice deal. Yup, a sheet of ice at the molten core of the earth, haha.
