stop right there... yeah, we ahve all been there... Major is not a high rank. you are not even really considered a high rank until you are a colonel... sorry, but you aren't a high rank...-Jésus noir
What I find fascinating is that he says he's been a Major for two years. How low is his game load? I usually bounce from Major to Sargeant and back again at least once a month or maybe once every second month. To keep the same rank, any rank, for two years has got to mean a really low game count.
I don't think so, when I cared about ranks I stayed major for quite some time (1-2 years probably) and had a game count that varied 10-100 games. It's more about balancing game selection / type and styles of games and opponents.

I think it depends on the rank...major has a 500 point range, as does Colonel, and Brig. General. I can stay within a 500 point range with a fairly decent game load (10 a month or so - if I play more than that on average my rank falls anyway).
A Lt. or a Captain has a narrow 200 point range that would be difficult to stay within at that game load.
LOL, guys, I am a major because I am a average player that seems to win just enough to stay there!! That wasn't the point...The point of using Major IS because it is a low to mid rank...now read it again. Maybe it will make more sense
I think major is an interesting rank because some of them are really good and some are terrible, and everything in between. And that's why CC is declining.

Others have already put in a similar responses, but it all depends on what games you play. When I join the tourneys with 8-12 players in each game and a free for all my rank fluctuates hugely. During periods where i only play clan games and 1v1 games my rank is very consistent... although it does slowly move up
I'd also say I'd consider mahor a pretty high rank... More importantly to the point brought up about new players getting frustrated playing higher ranks...chefs would likely see major as a very very high rank. I am highly doubtful that chefs new to the site would even find ANY open games where there are players ranked above major.

New players are the equivalent of a Private First Class. Major is a good rank if you can maintain playing it a variety of games. If you stick to the same handful of maps and settings to keep your "high" score then you're clearly not as good as you like to think [obviously this isn't directed at you mookie]. Players ranks will fluctuate of course; mine does all the time, but then I currently have over 270 active games. I have never played for rank and in the past couple of years I've dropped to Sergeant 1st Class once, and hit a high of 2999. One day I intend to drop my count to under fifty, play for rank and see where I go.
The best players, in my opinion, maintain Colonel+ in all manner of games.
I played a ton of risk as a youngster. If you do that it is not that hard to win games when you first start. People think you are a noob and underestimate you.
um... where did you get this number? just yesterday:
