Overall, the map looks great. But I'm not a huge fan of those mountains. They could use some work IMO.

Right now they kinda look like tents or something. I'm just saying, judging by the quality of the rest of the map, I'm sure you could come up with something better for the mountains.

Also the legend needs a bit clarification. The first two bonuses, yershalaim + roma (+1) and yershalaim + roma + shield (+2)... When you hold the latter bonus, which is the same as the former but with a shield territory, will you get both bonuses (+3) or does the latter bonus override the former, so that you only get the +2? This should be explained in the legend.

"Aragon" on the small map is covering the sea connector from Medina. In the legend the 5's look almost like the 3's. I dunno what you can do about that short of changing the font... :?

then on the small map you have to move the name and the cross
so the cross is inside the territory not on the border
where it confounds with the line
and maybe change its colour
as it is almost the same as port anchors

Ok! I'll do it!

I'll see what I can do.

About the mountains there was a problem with the last mountain between HRE and Balkans but consider it solved. About that issue in the legend I hadn't noticed but indeed it is quite confuse. The point is that one gets one army for Yerushalahyim and Roma and plus 2 for any shield. I'll have to work on the text in the legend.

Thank you all once again!

Cheers!

Version 22

Post by Beko the Great »

Here it is the version 22 of this map!:

Large
[bigimg]http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/2156/europe1099v22large.jpg[/bigimg]

Small
[bigimg]http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/6922/europe1099v22small.jpg[/bigimg]

Changes:
In the legend it is clear now that Yerushalahyim and Rome are worth of 1 army and you receive extra +2 for any shield owned;
Mountains between the Balkans and HRE are now more natural. I won't change the style of the mountains because I realy like them and I think it suites the map.
In the small map, the pope's cross is now totaly inside Roma and doesn't look like a cedar tree anymore!
In the small map, Aragon is not covering the sea route anymore.

I hope that no more changes are needed!

The legend is better now. However, IMO it would be even better like this:

# & ! +1 with additional +2 for each @

where # represents the yershalaim symbol, ! is the rome symbol and @ is a shield.

The mountains... meh, I guess it's a matter of personal preference. They still look like huts to me, but it's not going to keep me from playing the map. There are maps with worse mountains in play. However I would like it if you would at least try some alternatives. Maybe some steeper mountains, with sharper points? I do like the colour of the mountains, just the shape seems wrong.

Hmmmm :-k

Just a random thought really... How was the First Crusade known before there was a second one? Would it be appropriate to relabel

A nitpick better suited to the FF, I propose this map moves on.

But I see your point Benn. On one hand we're all of the 21st century looking back, logically it is the first crusade. (Also there was no qualm made over WWI Ottoman Empire).

But perhaps something like The Great Crusade might work... The Crusade sounds just to plain to me.

And speaking of the Second Crusade... has anyone given any thought to it? We've got 1 and 3.

Its difficult to tell the colours on the legends, especially the small one. You could do with making the crests a bit bigger.

eh, go back to the old 3, it's the 5 that needs fixing

I've quick fiddled with it, you'll have an easier time then I did with it and I didn't do much. I copied the middle of the 5 from the upright to half way down the middle of the loop. Then I pasted it 1 pixel lower and filled the extra pixel into the upright of the 5. It's a big difference.

I think relabel would only confuse things. Since there is already a Third Crusade map with that name, rename this map makes no sense. Also I didn't find no references of how it was named before there was a second one. I think it's a minor issue and the Label is good as it is.

Looking forward to your next update, we've talked about the 5's & 3's, so you've got my suggestion there. Couple other things, your mountains, recently mentioned by natty, I also agree they could use a little change, they just seem a bit too uniform. Give us a few in the same style that are a bit taller, or more craggy, and just mix them in the one you already have. A few of your territory names are awfully close together too, especially on the small map. Like Navarra and Gasconge, reordering the objects in that area is a good idea, 1 less mountain, move the territory circles a little bit here and there and that should clear up any problems that may arise. Give a good look to see if there isn't any other areas like this, Greece might have this going on too, and I'd reverse the position of the army circle and the territory name Dimashq. Oh, 1 last thing, what exactly is Mayurga? The name is sitting out in the middle of the Med not really connected to any territory I can see.

There has been no update since the last fortnightly review. If there is no update by the mapmaker by the next fortnightly review in roughly 2 weeks this map will be considered stalled and moved to the Recycling bin.

It's funny how Third Crusade was begun later and finished earlier.

Meh, I think its being nitpicked to death. It's a great map and certainly beautiful, I really hope to see it move on.

It's really nice map.
But I think you can better change the name turk to Ottoman.
Because they where not there on that time!

A couple of small things that i noticed only now:

- With Garnata i think that you mean Granata or Granada
- The sea connections between England and Friesland could be refined a bit, because it looks a bit different from the others you have done, but is a few pixels thing that you should be able to fix in few minutes. ;)

yes they were : The Seljuq Turks

The Ottoman Empire appeared in the 14th century, not being a part of this time frame.

It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the Foundry Moderators will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system, after an update has been made. ;-)
