My guess is BW (aka mibi) bought the site and is looking for a WCW / WWF merge for cash.

mibi wouldn't've let that happen to the home page...

Damn straight he wouldn't have let that happen to the home page.

If only we lived in an internet where the only thing that mattered was how things look.

Unless he is trying to pull a... merge?

Yes, it's too bad we live in an internet where it not only matters that things function properly... oh wait... that's not happening here either.

I haven't checked out the mobile version of the homepage in a while, but yeah, it does look a lot better. It's actually a nice example of a more minimalist design, taking only the masthead and the upper left box on the homepage. CC badly needs a mobile version of the site, though. After I click through the log in, the interior hasn't changed much, and it still takes 2-3 times as long to make a move.

The desktop version of the homepage is still pretty ugly, though. =(

I don't play anymore, I've lost interest, but I log in occasionally to see whats new. I have no idea what that stats say, but CC certainly feels like it's peaked. I personally don't like the the new homepage design, but if that's the sort of thing people expect these days, and signups are up, then I don't have a problem with it. I hope, however, that the new management really understand what CC is about. It's really quite a basic game, no high definition graphics, no sound, no deep strategy to learn or understand. But it appeals for other reasons: it's simplicity, the community, and it's slightly amateur user-orientated approach. It's ambitious, but shit, but great fun for that very reason; and that's what the new management need to understand.

You've been around since the days of wicked, yet you signed up in 2011? So, you just admitted you are a multi?

Edit: Or perhaps I'm misremembering how long ago wicked was. Anyway, when someone says they've been around CC for years, I expect them to have signed up earlier than 2011.

Wicked was a long time before 2011, actually the Month of the revolution that never got off the ground was July 2008.

I've noticed that the home page has been changed again. While I still don't agree it's all that great, it is an incredible improvement over what it was when I first made this thread. At least it makes a semblance of sense now, whereas before it didn't. I'd still like to see what kind of ideas any members of the site who work as professional graphics/web designers would propose.

Most people who work as designers in the professional capacity, don't really have the time to go about coming up with a design that may or may not get used. You know? Giving some advice to a willing party is something that I might do if asked. I've done pro bono branding projects for non-profits while I was doing my Masters and I swear, never again. The last one only started to appreciate the effort and became more co-operative when I started charging them.

There's no point in posting up a "proposal" like that to the untrained eye. When you say "see what they come up with" people are actually expecting a finished design and that's not going to happen right off the bat. A design of that importance may take a few weeks to actually get right, through working out a layout, figuring out navigation and content. you can't just sit behind the computer and throw things onto the page like what I think happened first time around. You have to research other sites and see what looks good, get a pen and paper and draw out what you want to do with it, working out content and navigation, and only when satisfied, take it to the computer.

It does look much better, but it's still an unfinished project imo.

I hear you, I really do. I've build plenty of websites and other things for both my employer and others that wound up never getting used even if they were the ones originally asking. It's mostly a curiosity thing with me. If someone did have the time and could show the new management what is actually possible, would that help sway the management into realizing they are going to have to pony up for the real deal or not?

These are the absurd things that fill the empty moments in my head, what can I say.

If you have some specific suggestions (that goes for any of you), feel free to send bigWham or I a PM. I can't guarantee that they'll end up getting used, but I will make sure they are at least considered.
