Updated on: June 2, 2025 / 3:19 PM MDT / CBS Colorado
A suspect is in custody after what the FBI is calling a "targeted act of violence" during a peaceful march in support of Israeli hostages at the outdoor Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday.
Witnesses said the suspect used a "makeshift flamethrower" and threw Molotov cocktails that burned multiple victims, police and the FBI said. Boulder police initially said eight people were injured; they raised the total to 12 on Monday afternoon after officials said four more people with less serious injuries came forward.
The suspect was identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, FBI Special Agent in Charge Mike Michalek said Sunday evening. Soliman was allegedly heard yelling "Free Palestine" during the attack, according to Michalek, who said that it was "clear this is a targeted act of violence" and it is being investigated as an act of terrorism.
Soliman has been charged with multiple felony counts, including attempted murder, and a federal hate crimes charge.
and
https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/boulder-colorado-antisemitic-attack-06-01-25Soliman learned how to make Molotov cocktails after he was “denied the purchase of a gun due to him not being a legal citizen.” He had previously taken a concealed-carry class and learned to shoot a gun.
Soliman was born in Egypt but lived in Kuwait for 17 years, according to the warrant. He moved to Colorado Springs three years ago. He was in the US illegally, according to the DHS.
The victims: Authorities said the number of victims has risen to 12 after four additional victims came forward. Two people remain in the hospital, they added.

andAI Overview
The US-Mexico border is commonly referred to as "the border" or "the U.S.-Mexico border". It's also sometimes called "the Mexican border". In the state of Texas, a significant portion of the border is defined by the Rio Grande river. The Rio Grande forms a natural boundary, with the border following the river's middle channel.

The Democrats continue to make a REAL mess on the border, leading to several crises of their making.
They cannot deny any of that and some here offer no actual refutation, other than attempted silliness.

I was down on the border you speak of, not too long ago. Didn't see any real problems. Heavier police presence than there used to be. Other than that, business as usual.jusplay4fun wrote:The Democrats continue to make a REAL mess on the border, leading to several crises of their making.
The term "Crisis" that you love to throw around doesn't seem to apply. There are some problems, no doubt, but not insoluble ones. The "Crisis" seems to be mainly the usual paranoid right-wing make-believe. Create an imaginary problem, and then get people to hate their neighbours who are supposed to be at the root of the imaginary problem.

Re: Democrats continue the Crises over Illegal Immigration
First of all, your recent road trip was in February, 2025, AFTER Trump took office and by then the FLOOD of illegal immigration was becoming smaller than under Feeble old Joe. THAT is a fact, so your perspective is biased against seeing one crisis at that time.Dukasaur wrote:I was down on the border you speak of, not too long ago. Didn't see any real problems. The "Crisis" seems to be mainly the usual paranoid right-wing make-believe. Create an imaginary problem, and then get people to hate their neighbours who are supposed to be at the root of the imaginary problem.
Second, the expenditure of money needed to support illegal migrants, many by Nonprofits, such as Catholic Charities, was REDUCED greatly. You have spoken of the fact that most migrants are hard working and decent folks; I agree. You also said, as I recall, that those migrants are not a net drain on government money; that is debatable. WIth the FLOOD of HUGE numbers that entered the US during Biden's term, that expenditure was correspondingly HUGE as well (#2). As I recall, there were reports of US Veterans losing housing in NYC to allow ILLEGAL immigrants to get housing. There were also reports of the same city spending up to MILLIONS to house those migrants in HOTELS, at rather high rates. THAT is crises #3.
Those migrants will EVENTUALLY "get on their feet" and find jobs and need less government support. Yes, very likely BUT NOT RIGHT away in all or many cases. They will need government help and MONEY right away.
And what happens when a few get such generous SUPPORT? RIGHT, the few becomes more, and then MORE and then a FLOOD. As I have argued before, THE USA CANNOT be the immigration destination of the entire Western Hemisphere or even a small fraction of that population. And what also happened under Biden? He allowed some 350K immigrate from Venezuela and another 150K from three other nations. (#4). And then immigrants from China and Africa started to enter as they found an "easier" path to enter via the US-Mexican border (#5).
And let me add #6, the growth of criminal cartels making money for such human migration "help." And there is the arrival of migrant criminals and gangs, #7. The likelihood is that the number of Criminals is small, I hope and I assume. And yes, political "points" will be advanced by some Republicans to prey on fears of some American voters about these criminals. Did I miss #8? Perhaps LACK OF HOUSING for them, and thus NYC (and perhaps other cities) used HOTELS as their temporary solution. MORE?
So yes, your perspective is biased in more than one way and YES, there are SEVERAL CRISES, and Biden and former DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas played down those numbers and the extent of the CRISES. Kamala TOTALLY IGNORED the issue as much as she could. They allowed the small problem to GROW into A CRISIS, which metastasized into several CRISES, as it GREW QUICKLY into a FLOOD, as I argued above.
These are the same people who COVERED UP the worsening of Biden's mental capacity. BOTH Kamala and Mayorkas are on elecronic record as BRAGGING on how mentally fit Biden was as THEY LIED about his severe mental decline.

SOME OF US forgot NOTHING: This bill did not FIX anything. It merely expanded Presidential Powers to restrict immigration that BIDEN had NO intention of using, as proven already by the Actions of Trump and the INACTIONS of Biden to ENCOURAGE more ILLEGAL immigration.Pack Rat wrote:

and more:
https://stefanik.house.gov/2024/2/house ... 20reforms.House Republican Leadership Statement on Senate Immigration Bill
February 5, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Conference Chairwoman Stefanik, Speaker Johnson, Majority Leader Scalise, and Majority Whip Emmer issued the following statement regarding the Senate’s immigration bill:
“House Republicans oppose the Senate immigration bill because it fails in every policy area needed to secure our border and would actually incentivize more illegal immigration.
“Among its many flaws, the bill expands work authorizations for illegal aliens while failing to include critical asylum reforms. Even worse, its language allowing illegals to be ‘released from physical custody’ would effectively endorse the Biden ‘catch and release’ policy.
The so-called ‘shutdown’ authority in the bill is anything but, riddled with loopholes that grant far too much discretionary authority to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas – who has proven he will exploit every measure possible, in defiance of the law, to keep the border open.
“The bill also fails to adequately stop the President’s abuse of parole authority and provides for taxpayer funds to fly and house illegal immigrants in hotels through the FEMA Shelter and Services Program.
“Because President Biden has refused to utilize his broad executive authority to end the border catastrophe that he has created, the House led nine months ago with the passage of the Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2). That bill contains the necessary components to actually stem the flow of illegals and end the present crisis. The Senate must take it up immediately.
ALL of pee rat's videos does not change the facts and does not fix the HUMPTY DUMPTY that was Biden and the BORDER CRISES that his policies caused. And yes, there is MORE than ONE CRISIS at the US Mexico border. HENCE there are many CRISES at the border that the ACTIONS and Executive Orders by President Trump ended. We did NOT need a new law, we merely NEEDED a NEW PRESIDENT.

Your country spends $100 billion a year on all aspects of the border issues, including policing and incarceration, as well as some half-hearted assistance to the migrants.jusplay4fun wrote:WIth the FLOOD of HUGE numbers that entered the US during Biden's term, that expenditure was correspondingly HUGE as well (#2). You spend more than $1 trillion (about 10 times as much, in case you've forgotten your math) on military preparations to destabilize regimes you don't approve of and bomb helpless villagers in Third-World countries.
If you're worried about homeless veterans, maybe buy a couple fewer nukes this year and put up a couple of subsidized apartment buildings.
You could EASILY buid housing for every single unhoused person in your country, hell, in the entire Western Hemisphere. You CHOOSE to spend the money on weapons of mass destruction.
It's not a "Crisis", it's a matter of priorities.

Quick response, for now. And DEFENSE spending you decry protects CANADA from the nukes of Putin and others.
And yes, there have been efforts to defend America by covert operations to "influence" other nations. Do you advocate an all out war INSTEAD, for such nations as Iraq and others? I doubt THAT.
You, Duk, ignore that, because the US is doing (essentially) the role of "Policeman of the World" that Canadians can feel morally superior because they let "Big Brother" do the heavy lifting and some of the "dirty work."
And yes, we can do ANYTHING we want (the Moon Landing is an example of MONEY and time and effort) BUT there are MANY other PRIORITIES. How much would it take to HOUSE everyone up to some "standard"? AT LEAST Hundreds of billions, and where will that money be generated from? Do not be like AOC and say that the Fed will wave its magic hand to make that money out of NOTHING (that is sarcasm, pee rat, as AOC seems to have LITTLE grasp of Economics, despite her degree).
And I Have been calling this situation CRISES for a LONG time, not in the past few days.

Estimates for the number of undocumented migrants in Canada vary, but range from 200,000 to 700,000. Some sources suggest it could be as high as 500,000. These individuals are often employed in sectors like construction, caregiving, and domestic services.

And do you advocate for OPEN borders, like Biden did for the US-Mexico border, so that you can hire a gardener or more hotel workers? In 2023, Canada welcomed 471,808 immigrants, a 7.8% increase from 2022. Immigrants now make up 23.0% of the Canadian population, the highest share in over 150 years. This rise is largely due to a record number of recent immigrants between 2016 and 2021, despite border restrictions in 2020.

Sorry, don't say you went and destroyed Iraq because you were doing me a favour. Saddam was a rotten asshole, to be sure, but do you really think people were worse off under Saddam, with a stable albeit dictatorial government and and a reasonably healthy economy, or were they worse off after the U.S. Army came, blew up all the country's infrastructure, killed 100,000 people and triggered a civil war that killed 500,000 more? That's just Iraq -- long list of other countries that have gotten the same treatment. If you think that's "policing", I sure hope you never come to police my neighbourhood.jusplay4fun wrote: You, Duk, ignore that, because the US is doing (essentially) the role of "Policeman of the World" that Canadians can feel morally superior because they let "Big Brother" do the heavy lifting and some of the "dirty work."

First, the general case.
I don't advocate for completely open borders, but for reasonable flow of migrants, yes.
We are not plants, with roots in the ground. We are animals, we have legs to move us from places lacking opportunity to seek out other places. Human history is the history of frequent migrations to new lands. We've been the dominant species on earth for over a million years. Passports and border controls have existed for maybe 150. So for probably 99.99% of our existence we've moved from place to place in search of opportunity. I understand that with the effects of the Third Agricultural Revolution, the world is now just too crowded now and some border controls are inevitable. But I don't think the current paranoid state is healthy, either.
Okay, second, the big bugaboo about immigrants "taking my job".
It's kinda funny, actually, because in another 55 days my current contract is ending and it's not being renewed. The kid they're giving my job to (a kid I hired and trained originally) is locally born-and-bred. So in my case it's going the other way. I, an immigrant, am losing my job to a born Canadian, lol. Has nothing to do with my immigration status, of course, just that the kid will work for 20K/year less, lol. Anyway, just threw that little bit of irony in there because it's a funny twist on the whole "immigrants are coming to steal your job" bromide.
Anyway, jobs are competitive. Sometimes they'll give your job to someone else. Other times inertia rules and people will hold their job forever. But in either case, rarely will the good jobs go to immigrants. Generally, immigrants get the shit jobs nobody else wants. They're cab drivers, corner store clerks on the night shift, agricultural workers, hotel cleaners. All the shit jobs you and your kids don't want.
I know a guy who owns a MacDonald's franchise. The (white) kids that work in the MacDonald's will NOT clean the toilets, even though it's in their written job description. He has to pay extra for an outside agency (staffed by Bengali women) to come in twice a day and clean the toilets, even though there's half-a-dozen white kids standing around doing nothing during the slow periods. The white kids simply have decided that cleaning toilets is beneath their middle class status and they will not do it.
That's the nature of growing up in a First World country. Right from early childhood, your parents and your teachers are telling you "make sure you study hard and get into a good university so you don't end up digging ditches for a living." So, if you don't go to a good university, or even if you do but don't end up working in your field, you know you're a loser if you have to do manual labour. People who grow up in First World countries know that a "real" job involves sitting at a desk and clicking a mouse, and anything less is considered despicable and humiliating. Whether you like them or not, you need the immigrants to do all the dirty and difficult jobs that you really don't want to be doing.
I've seen this first hand. Years ago I used to drive truck in the agricultural industry, bringing seedlings to farms. Now, farms around here are generally owned by Dutchmen and staffed by Mexicans. But some of the farmers have too many kids and they have to give them jobs on the farms. When they do, they never mix-and-match employees. A crew is either all white or all Mexican. You'll almost never see a mixed crew. Whenever I would arrive on a farm staffed by Mexicans, I knew everything would go fine. The Mexicans would put their nose to the grindstone and work like a team and have the truck unloaded in 90 minutes. If a farm was staffed by white kids, I'd be there for six hours. When the white kids go to unload a truck, first they have to have a conference, and then they have to have a smoke break. Then one of them needs to go for a shit while the others grudgingly start to work. Then they grab a couple trees, but then their phone beeps and they have to check their Instagram, and hey, isn't it almost time for coffee break? When they come back from coffee break, it's time for another conference and another smoke break. Literally, I shit you not, the difference between a farm staffed by Mexicans and a farm staffed by white kids was the difference between 90 minutes and six hours. I think you can do the math.
I don't blame the kids. It's just the inevitable result of a First World upbringing. We are culturally trained to define success as sitting at a desk pushing buttons, and manual labour as a failure. Our societies will not function without a steady flow of immigrants to do the manual jobs.
In my case it was my great-grandfather. Every time I'd see him, he'd tell me, "make sure you study hard and finish your degree so you don't end up as a loser with a shovel in his hand." Of course, I was a fuckup, and didn't finish my degree, and became a truck driver. Now I work in highway maintenance, and even though I'm a supervisor and sit on my ass most of the time, once in a while I do have to pitch in and lift a shovel. When I do, my great-grandfather's ghost rises up in front of me and says, "Look at you, you pathetic fucking loser! You didn't finish your degree, and here you are with with a shovel in your hand, just like a proletarian piece of shit." So I understand why the white kids unloading my truck have to have a smoke break. They're dealing with the humiliation of working on a farm instead of sitting in an office pushing buttons.
Yeah, you wouldn't eat if it wasn't for the immigrants.

Re: Democrats continue the Crises over Illegal Immigration
You certainly went on a tangent on your job and cleaning toilets and having a shovel in one’s hands.
I for one have cleaned toilets in my job at McDonald’s (actually another fast food place, but let us not go off on too many tangents). I had no qualms about it; I made sure to wash up thoroughly afterwards. If I had to, I did that, and more than a few times.
Yes, jobs are competitive, no doubt. Are you getting “laid off” Duk or are you bosses moving you elsewhere? I may have missed that point; sorry if I did.
Are you an immigrant to Canada or were you born there? I thought you are a Canadian by birth, but again I do not recall exactly. I know that you now live in Canada, near Niagara Falls, near the U.S.-Canada border.
As far as Iraq, President Bush 2 (W, 43, the son) made a TOTAL MESS OF THAT. I once told someone that “I almost did NOT vote to re-elect him” because of the mess he made there. There was wisdom by his father (41) to not take out Saddam out of power. Undercover ops was and would have been better, IF the goal was to topple that regime. Iraq and Afghanistan are two HUGE FOREIGN policy blunders by Bush 2 (43) and Obama SHOULD HAVE gotten us out of BOTH once Osama bin Laden was killed. Nation building and the war against terrorism did not justify loss of men (blood), money (treasure WASTED), and national standing and the Moral HIGH ground (whatever we had of that) before 9/11. I said it then, likely posted something along those lines here in this Forum somewhere, and still believe that today.
To return to the worker “discussion” yes I wanted a college education for my children; they both have a four year college degree, as do I. I am not beneath doing manual labor; I have done so, often at my Church. I recently trimmed shrubs, including roses, by myself. I even helped my Pastor remove two small tree stumps by hand (and foot and using hand tools). Our Hispanic parishioners were surprised that we did so.
AND YES, without immigrants doing hard physical labor jobs, we would have trouble getting home and roads built, crops picked, hotel rooms cleaned; ALL the jobs Duk described. One more set of jobs MOST Americans refuse to do: meat packing and processing AND clean up after the meat is packed, too. Those are difficult and sometimes dangerous. There was a report a few years ago about a 14 year old child of immigrants cleaning a chicken processing plant who was killed in an accident on the 12-8 shift doing MAJOR clean up that was , quite frankly, VERY DANGEROUS, even for adults. So YES, I am quite aware of our dependence on immigrant workers and have been before 2026.
Also, as Duk has said above AND BEFORE, WE NEED a controlled flow of immigration into the U.S. and other developed nations. My point in this thread is that AGAIN, Biden’s policies and actions were essentially “anyone can enter.” That policy caused a cascade of other issues AND that is one of several KEY issues that got Trump elected in 2016 and AGAIN in 2024.

Trump Claims on Immigration Enforcement: Rhetoric vs Reality

https://tracreports.org/reports/759/
These claims were not simply untrue but preposterous.
Biden’s actual FY 2024 record of 272,000 removals was over twice DHS’s claimed number of 135,000 removals during its first 100 days. So by no means had this administration’s claimed record “already surpassed the entirety of Fiscal 2024.”

Re: Democrats continue the Crises over Illegal Immigration
Things are NOT looking good for Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
https://www.wmar2news.com/infocus/7-sho ... child-porn
BALTIMORE — The Department of Justice is seeking to keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia in custody pending his federal criminal trial in Tennessee on two counts of unlawfully transporting undocumented aliens within the United States.
Garcia, an alleged MS-13 gang member living in Maryland, was arrested by ICE and deported to his native country of El Savador back in March.
His family sued alleging a violation of due process. (...)
Prosecutors accuse Garcia of smuggling since at least 2016. They claim Garcia made at least one trip a week, transporting approximately 50 undocumented immigrants throughout the United States per month, making over $1000 each trip. He also tried recruiting others to help, according to court documents. (...)
Prosecutors say license plate readers and phone records prove Garcia lied to Tennessee State Police when pulled over in November 2022 on suspicion of human trafficking.
"The SUV the defendant was driving on November 30, 2022, was owned by a co-conspirator and convicted alien smuggler. Cellphone location information for the cellphone used by the defendant – as well as License Plate Reader (“LPR”) data for the SUV – showed that the defendant lied to the THP when he told them he had been working a construction job in St. Louis for the past two weeks. Specifically, the defendant had been in Texas earlier that same morning and had not been close to St. Louis within the prior two weeks."

If convicted, Garcia could face up to 10 years in federal prison for each person illegally transported, which could total several decades.
Garcia's long denied being part of MS-13.
His attorney Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg issued this statement to ABC News.
"We are going to fight to ensure Kilmar receives a fair trial—something he has yet to be afforded, especially by this administration. From the beginning, this case has made one thing painfully clear: the government had the power to bring him back at any time. Instead, they chose to play games with the court and with a man’s life. We’re not just fighting for Kilmar—we’re fighting to ensure due process rights are protected for everyone. Because tomorrow, this could be any one of us—if we let power go unchecked, if we ignore our constitution."
Garcia is scheduled to be arraigned on June 13.

andFeds: Tennessee Highway Patrol suspected Abrego-Garcia of being involved in human/labor trafficking
Stay tuned.A couple hours later Attorney General Pam Bondi released several pages of documents she says proves Abrego-Garcia's MS-13 membership.
In those documents, a Prince George's County Police Gang Unit explained how Abrego-Garcia's wearing of a Chicago Bulls hat and hoodie, signifies a certain credo within MS-13.
"The meaning of the clothing is to represent "ver, oir y callar" or "see no evil, hear- no evil and say no evil," detectives wrote. "Wearing the Chicago Bulls hat represents that they are a member in good standing with the MS-13."

Re: Democrats continue the Crises over Illegal Immigration
Here is a new aspect and we can add THIS (#9) to the list of CRISES caused by the BAD Biden Policies on Immigration:
From what I read and heard from several reports, including from those posted below, when ICE agents went to arrest and detain migrants, there was a massive protest that escalated. The LAPD was called to support ICE and it took TWO HOURS for police to arrive to support these Federal Agents. Things quickly got out of hand and President Trump ordered in National Guard units to help restore order.

Deployment follows days of protest
The arrival of the National Guard followed two days of protests that began Friday in downtown Los Angeles before spreading on Saturday to Paramount, a heavily Latino city south of the city, and neighboring Compton.
As federal agents set up a staging area Saturday near a Home Depot in Paramount, demonstrators attempted to block Border Patrol vehicles, with some hurling rocks and chunks of cement. In response, agents in riot gear unleashed tear gas, flash-bang explosives and pepper balls.

Images and video showed a chaotic scene on Saturday as hundreds of protesters filled the streets and clashed with federal agents in riot gear attempting to impede apprehensions by Border Patrol in Paramount, California, near a Home Depot.
The dystopian scene showed the heavily armored agents firing teargas canisters in order to disperse demonstrators who raged for hours on Saturday in a messy and tumultuous street takeover.
One violent protester in a face-covering helmet hurled rocks at the windows of cars right outside the super store — cracking some Border Patrol pick-up trucks in the windshield, according to viral video.
ICE agents driving one of those vehicles suffered injuries after rocks left a huge gash in both the windshield and the hand of one of the federal law enforcement officials, video obtained by Fox News showed.
Border Patrol Chief Michael W. Banks reported that “several arrests” have been made for assault on a federal agent, according to a post on X Saturday.

What we're covering
• Protesters arrested: The Los Angeles Police Department began making arrests after declaring several protests “unlawful” assemblies and authorizing the use of “less lethal munitions.” CNN field crews have witnessed mounted officers working to disperse demonstrators as well as officers striking and pushing protesters and deploying flash-bangs and tear gas into the crowd. At least two Waymo self-driving cars have been set on fire.
• LA deployment: About 300 National Guardsmen are deployed at three locations around Los Angeles, the California governor’s office said this morning. It follows a presidential memorandum signed by President Donald Trump calling up 2,000 National Guardsmen to protect federal personnel and property at protests sparked by immigration raids – the first time a president has called in the National Guard without a state’s request or consent since 1965. And 500 active-duty Marines are “prepared to deploy,” NORTHCOM said.
• Immigration crackdown: Immigration authorities and demonstrators have clashed for three days in the Los Angeles area, with unrest beginning Friday after dozens of people were detained by federal immigration agents across different locations.
• Trump and Newsom: California Gov. Gavin Newsom called Trump on Friday, and they spoke for approximately 40 minutes, according to the governor’s office. Trump has claimed, without evidence, that he was forced to step in because California Democratic officials, including Newsom, were incapable of stopping the protests themselves.

https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cvg7vxx888ktWhite House: Trump 'rightfully stepped in to restore law and order'
The White House has said that President Donald Trump "rightfully stepped in to restore law and order because of Gavin Newsom's feckless leadership and his refusal to stop the violent attacks on American law enforcement".
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson issued the statement after California Governor Gavin Newsom said that Trump's decision to deploy the National Guard to demonstrations was "purposefully inflammatory".
The White House statement continued: "It’s a bald-faced lie for Newsom to claim there was no problem in Los Angeles before President Trump got involved. Everyone saw the chaos, violence, and lawlessness – unless, of course, Gavin Newsom doesn’t think any of that is a problem.”
