Well, that's me out of the comp then. Used up all my luck with the guess.
How long before the entries are up.

A couple of weeks ago when Rj showed me his map, it got my competitive juices flowing and I put something together. But, like Rj, I decided not to enter for a variety of reasons. Anyway, DiM said you could do the basics in 2-3 hours, and that's exactly how much of my time I gave this. Obviously a lot of missing - bridges, territory names, connections - and it looks like crap, but two hours is plenty of time to knock out the basics if you have the gameplay in hand. And probably 30 minutes of my time was spent trying to figure out where to accurately put the lines of latitude and longitude.
Looking forward to seeing the entries!

some very interesting styles.

Well let's see I like #2 because ______ did it. #3 well hmmmm.... I think _______ did it. I'm pretty sure ______ did that one! But I think # 6 is the most original one in the group which is calling my vote for that reason IDK. Will have to look closer at them later.

digging number 6 - nice to see that somebody had an original idea and did something unique.

I also like #5 best, it's so clean!

I agree with this statement as well, but I just gotta give the edge to #5. #6 was my second choice though.

Can we get this onto the homepage somewhere so people know the vote is going on.
Some nice maps there.

I really like #2 and #6! #5 would probably be my third choice. Not sure which one I'm gonna vote for yet.

Great work to everyone who entered! It's funny, I think based on techniques and styles I think I could put a name to maybe 3 of the maps. They are all very nice though, good work again to all.
Re: [Official] Papua New Guinea Graphics Contest. VOTE NOW!
Gotta go with 2. Yes, 6 is unique, but the aesthetic value is lacking.
Re: [Official] Papua New Guinea Graphics Contest. VOTE NOW!
Gotta go with 6.
It is unique style that we don't have on CC, simplistic and very professional exectued. Only downfalls are the colour used for Bouganville and the Southern Highlands appears the same; the fourway border, and missing bridge.
2 on the other hand is very good also, but a little overly fussy for PNG, there is one line on Karkar that doesn't meet up but should, and I'm not too sure about the artwork being in appropariate style for PNG.
But i still prefer #6
Just my two cents worth.

Appropriate style for PNG? What do you mean?
There's no "appropriate style for PNG". PNG can be whatever you want.
I mean it's just a file format. It's not like there's some limitations what kind of graphics you can or can't display on a PNG file.

2 or 6 would be good for me, but 7 makes it too difficult to see the different bonuses

PNG in this context means Papua New Guinea.
No 6 is the most original, and has been done very well. Sure it could do with a little tweaking, but all contest maps have needed something extra! No 6 gets my vote.

The borders of Balimo on Entry #6 seem to be wrong, but I guess that can be easily changed if it gets past the voting stage (:
Re: [Official] Papua New Guinea Graphics Contest. VOTE NOW!
I voted for #4. Looks the best to me.

Re: [Official] Papua New Guinea Graphics Contest. VOTE NOW!
Map 2 put the rest to shame (sorry to the other map makers
)

Re: [Official] Papua New Guinea Graphics Contest. VOTE NOW!
I've always liked topo models, so #6 is far away my favorite. The only change I'd suggest would be to make the continent bonus indicators overlap at least 2 territories.
Re: [Official] Papua New Guinea Graphics Contest. VOTE NOW!
I've changed my vote from #5 to #6 (which was always my second choice) simply because I'd rather #6 win than #2 (also an attractive map don't get me wrong) Obviously I don't know who made any of these so it's nothing personal, but we have plenty of maps that look like #2 and none that look like #6. It's time for some new looks I say!

Agreed here. I like both #6 and #2, but #6 wins out for me based on originality.
I will say this... if #2 wins, I hope that whomever did #6 tries to apply the same sort of style/scheme to a different geographic region in the world. It's a very attractive map and I hope to see it something like it on the site soon.
