No clue, but I'd imagine the inverse is also true... Especially if we start looking at older games where there wasn't a 'refuge/fuckmyOGcountry' banner, and where folks with multiple nationalities were choosing to go as american because of the superior support and training facilities.

She won Gold in boxing.

Ironic that those insisting she is a man insist on looking at the birth certificate and the genitals and how the person was physically from birth. Genetically she may be XXY or XXXY or some other testerone boosting rarity but that isnt what they want to go by.

This whole Olympics has been revealing about the lack of education for conservative Christians and MAGA from the opening, when they didnt recognize the Greek gods and thought it was the Last Supper with even more than 12 weird painted weirdos.

Education would greatly improve fundamentalist and MAGA lives.

A 1-point margin in the basketball just helped the US top the medals table.

China getting closer and closer to finishing a games at #1 though.

could potentially enlist some help from chat GPT for this but need to clarify some things. Are we just ignoring team sports? Like mens basketball, are we counting that as 1 participant that earned 1 medal? Are we counting it as 12 players and 12 golds? 12 players and 1 gold? team sports are going to really mess with averages based on how you want em counted.

Are you asking what I did?

I just took the total number of medals earned by country X and divided by total number of athletes from country X

Don't know how they count the medals....if there's say 10 members in the woman's rugby team and they won bronze, isn't that ten bronze medals?

Just a comparative thing....off top of my head it ranged from about .05 to .15 medals per athlete for the countries I calculated....

Does it reflect the comparative effectiveness of the countries' athletes? Maybe....maybe not ....but a fun indicator nonetheless :D

USA and China tied for the most Gold Medals earned by any one nation. The USA finished far ahead of the field for the Total Medal Count.

This should be the FINAL Medal Tally (I do know of one contested results, in Women's Gymnastic, so this may change a bit):

Team Gold Silver Bronze Total
1United States
40 44 42 126
2China
40 27 24 91
3Japan
20 12 13 45
4Australia
18 19 16 53
5France
16 26 22 64

The U.S., which became the first country to top 3,000 Olympic medals during the 2024 Summer Games, earned more medals in Paris than it did in Tokyo.

Athletes from the U.S. took home 126 total medals this year, topping China (91), Britain (65) and France (64). China had been ahead in the race for gold throughout much of the games, but China and the U.S. both earned 40 apiece by the end of the games. In addition to 40 gold medals, the U.S. won 42 silver and 44 bronze medals.

U.S. wins big throughout history
It's the most ever wins by the Americans in a non-boycotted Olympic Games outside the U.S., topping the previous high of 121 from Rio in 2016, according to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, or USOPC. The U.S. has twice surpassed their Paris winnings, both times at home. Team USA won 174 medals in Los Angeles in 1984 and won a whopping 239 medals in St. Louis in 1904.

Country ● Gold ● Silver ● Bronze Total
United States 40 44 42 126
China 40 27 24 91
Japan 20 12 13 45
Australia 18 19 16 53
France 16 26 22 64
Netherlands 15 7 12 34
Great Britain 14 22 29 65
South Korea 13 9 10 32
Italy 12 13 15 40
Germany 12 13 8 33
New Zealand 10 7 3 20
Canada 9 7 11 27
Uzbekistan 8 2 3 13
Hungary 6 7 6 19
Spain 5 4 9 18
Sweden 4 4 3 11
Kenya 4 2 5 11
Norway 4 1 3 8
Ireland 4 0 3 7

You forgot to include the Hong Kong and Taiwan medals in those totals. China wins.

Also, congrats to Sifan Hassan, who won gold in the marathon yesterday then accepted her medal while wearing a headscarf. France can take its Islamophobic headscarf ban and stuff it up its dirty, hairy ass.

I did not compile the results; I quoted a news/media source.

Taiwan is not part of mainland China; it has its own political government.

China did not win the total medal count, btw.

And MORE:
China. Notably, swimmers from the nation that took second place in the medal standing at the Paris Olympics were also at the center of the doping debate. (...)

A New York Times expose revealed that 23 Chinese swimmers who had failed drug testing competed in the Tokyo Olympics. The swimming and sports worlds questioned CHINADA and WADA's decision to slip things under the wraps. As 11 of 23 swimmers competed in the Paris Olympics, they couldn't shake off the doping allegation. However, swimmers like Leon Marchand and China's Pan Zhanle got caught in the storm, simply for being too good. While Marchand reminded people of Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympian in history, Zhanle created history with his 100m freestyle double record. Yet, none could escape controversy.

Hawaii IS PART of the USA and does follow the Federal Government. The comparison of Hawaii to Taiwan is incorrect, other than geographic. And Hawaii is farther than Taiwan from the mainland. You supposition is merely silly and annoying. I am right and you are wrong AGAIN.

AND you did not attempt to address the allegation of DOPING by Chinese swimmers. NO suprise, as you have NO legitimate answers to refute the allegations. You're a DOPE.

As usual, your biases are FULL of CRAP. Do you realize how stupid and irritating you are? Or is that that POINT, to be as annoying as you are?

It is pointless to argue with pinheads like you, small-ralph, and p-brat.

Then why does President Xi make statements like this? Simple, small-ralph does not understand reality regarding Taiwan. SILLY little BOY
BEIJING, Dec 31 (Reuters) - China's "reunification" with Taiwan is inevitable, President Xi Jinping said in his New Year's address on Sunday, striking a stronger tone than he did last year with less than two weeks to go before the Chinese-claimed island elects a new leader.
The Jan. 13 presidential and parliamentary elections are happening at a time of fraught relations between Beijing and Taipei. China has been ramping up military pressure to assert its sovereignty claims over democratically governed Taiwan.

and:
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Weeks before Taiwan holds elections for its president and legislature, China renewed its threat to use military force to annex the self-governing island democracy it claims as its own territory.

There is not a listing for Taiwan as an entity involved in the Olympics.

There is:

Hong Kong China (34 athletes)
People's Republic of China (388 athletes)

If you're going to resort to pedantry then you could at least do pedantry correctly.

Poor response; that shows you do not understand or even know recent History of China. The analogy is poor, too.

Maybe for his next seminar jp can ring up the Pope and teach him about the Bible.

Let's try this:

The Pacers win game 6 in Indiana and now we await Game 7 of the NBA Playoffs.

Let's discuss SPORTS and take a break from the hate of some in the Political arena.

And the Florida Panthers again defeat Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers for their second consecutive Stanley Cup (4-2). This is their THIRD consecutive year in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Last year, the Oilers ALMOST did it, coming back from a 0-3 HOLE to force a Game 7. That was exciting to watch.

OKC WINS its first NBA Title by winning game 7. (The same franchise won an NBA Title as the Seattle SuperSonics in 1979.)

The injury to Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers reminds me of the injury to Jason Tatum of the Boston Celtics: about the same time in the game and reaching out after a turnover in the Playoffs this season. And both teams lost the game and the series, too. And BOTH, along with Damian Lillard, suffered Achilles injuries during the Playoffs this season/year.

btw:
The Indiana Pacers have never won an NBA championship. While they have won three ABA championships (1970, 1972, and 1973) before joining the NBA in 1976, they have not been able to secure an NBA title (from AI).
Sometimes there are greener pastures "over there."
