Access to a clan's forum
Has any bright spark out there an answer for this:
An hour ago whilst a couple of our members were in our clan forum a 'guest' appeared. A bit disconcerting at first, we then assumed it may be a member who hides his online status. So we tried it out, but that didn't change to 'Guest', it simply reduced the number of registered users browsing our clan forum. So how can that be?
Is it possibly a mod? I'm assuming they have access to clan forums as they can be requested to come in and delete old threads. I asked King Achilles about this the other day and he assured me that a mod cannot access a clan's forum threads (which begs the question "How do they gain access to delete them then?").

Welp, admins can go into any usergroup or clan. Dunno how a guest showed up, maybe a bug?
Re: Access to a clan's forum
how do they also post in them? i have had mods post in clans threads before for "activity checks".

Holy shit!
We've asked those guys about 50 times if they could delete old threads in our forum, or if someone could do it, or if we could do it, and they told us to f*ck OFF.
You guys must be balls deep in the mod pool. They never help us with shit.

Haha, I haven't asked them to do it (yet) Snowy. Our old posts merely get relegated to the back pages. I know it can be done though as another clan had it done for them and I got wind of it. 'Balls deep' indeed, lol.

Hidden users are different and they are being registered - learn the manual!
Guest users can try to access the page but get redirected. But when they actually request the page (even if they get access denied and redirect header) - it still registers them as viewing forums - even just for a moment.
One more thing (and that is what's happening here probably) - it might be a crawler (from google or msn) that just surfs the forum (and receives redirect as well) and this hidden forums are not in robots.txt file. So they are registered as guest (but the forum should know them and add to a different group and hide from logs...).
So... yes, 1st access to forum with unsigned account (I mean without any cookies or session data) will be registered as guest. There is no way you can spoof yourself with a guest if you are a mod or an admin (or anyone but guest itself) - it will register you anyway. That is how the internet works (at least how CC forum works).
So I am sure that you can rest easy.

Actually. It were me. I have the secret code to access all clan areas and popped in to see if i could copy how you get the defending dice on your side so often. Hope i didnt leave too much mess!
Re: Access to a clan's forum
It could be likely that one of your members were forum banned (for a little amount of time) and then they could still view your forums, but are part of the "guests" membership. It sometimes happens.

Not that likely with our clan. I am not sure, but I guess banned members get their access right removed and they are not able to access clan forums anymore.
banned members dont appear as guests in the forum....
ie you will often see owen's name looking through the forum

Re: Access to a clan's forum
It should be a hidden user of the clan. Forum banned members do appear (like Owen) if they wish to be seen. The other one I think I've seen is a member who is in the forum and times out.
Re: Access to a clan's forum
Hmmm I wonder what happens if 2 account sitters were on at the same time for the same account?

Forum should use the last login information and will rewrite session data of the user (country, browsing forums and so on). But I can be wrong here.

Re: Access to a clan's forum
So we're looking at sitters w/ multiple logins (unlikely), a spoofing mod or a hidden web crawler(no idea about this one)?
To my knowledge no one was forum banned in our clan. Further, the "guest" appeared for at least several minutes so it wasn't a time out (doesn't make sense to me anyway) or a redirect.
Whatever happened it would be nice to have a clear answer. Shouldn't a site operator be able to answer this or check the forum history?

Nope. A Forum ban does not prohibit a person from accessing clan forums.
When I was fora banned I was in my clans forum flaming CC like there was no tomorrow.
I wonder if it was a GUESTED account? Like a web site banned account. Was anyone in your clan guested/busted?
This post was made by jefjef who should be on your ignore list.
