New TeamCC Badge!

After much deliberation, pacing back and forth in the board room and eating tons of bananas and peanut butter. The Admins have come to a decision, and we have a winning badge design! Many Congratulations to [player]fumandomuerte[/player] who designed the winning entry. For his efforts and to show the gratitude of the Admins and the rest of TeamCC, i present him with a Special Contribution Medal!

And to show our appreciation to everyone who entered the competition, all your work was not for nothing! Every member who entered the competition and created a badge design will be receiving a contest medal for their efforts.

Thank you everyone who participated and to everyone who provided feedback in the competition forum, keep an eye out for the new badges which will start popping up around the place very soon.

This totally cheapens the contest medal. It's officially a "thanks for participating" ribbon. Give the special contribution medal out to the winner (although, I'd just give the Contest Medal), and the losers, sorry, get nothing. Or, create a separate silly little Participation Medal, then we can all pretend like we're in 1st Grade where nothing matters except for showing up and making an effort, no matter how small or stupid or uninspired the effort was.

Anyone can get a contest medal, you just have to beat a mod during Whac-A-Mod. Special Contribution medals are much rarer.

There were several people who commited their time and efforts for free because they wanted to help improve the site. Now why would you get offended that they get some recognition out of it? Are you perhaps afraid that your own medals will suffer some kind of inflation? How small a person must one be to want to take away recognition from others only to boost his own ego?

Personally, I didn't know I was getting a medal for participating. And personally it doesn't matter to me, if they'd decide to take it away it'd be fine with me, I participated because I wanted to give a shot at a friendly competition and help the site. However the site decided to thank me and all other participants by giving us medals, and frankly I think it shows that the site respects their members, and appreciates the efforts of those members that spend their time and effort for free just to help a website they like.

Toby's got it right on. In fact, that's my entire argument. Like I said, if you want to recognize constants for participating, but not quite being good enough to win, then make a participation ribbon. But don't give out a contest achievement medal. What exactly did you achieve? Nothing. Congrats to you for putting forth the time and effort. But sorry, you didn't achieve anything, you didn't actually WIN anything, you simply showed up.

I was fortunate and skilled enough as a kid to never receive an 8th place purple ribbon for Track and Field. When my brothers did their track, everyone got a ribbon for "Participant'. The top 3 designs should get a contest award for being a finalist.

Just to clarify, the contest achievement medals are being handed out in accordance to what the webmaster, lackattack, has requested we use them as. He personally wants to see them handed out much more regularly (agree or disagree, that is your right) and so that is what is being done.

I think that instead of jumping into the thread and being accusatory it should be focused on that fumandomuerte has provided us with an excellent new badge to be used and he deserves his congratulations, not an argument about the merits of contest achievement medal awards.
