Guide for New,Tournament Creators/Directors

Is there a guide for people that might be interested in creating a tournament? Someone who would mentor them, bounce ideas off, (try) and stop them from looking stupid?

I'd like to create a tournament, have a good idea, do I just post and go?

Any help guidance appreciated!
