Top 10 List: Favorite Video Games
I like to make lists. I'm going to do a few of these (maybe one a week) for a while. Maybe we can share our favorite things (from the entertainment world).
This one is video games. What are your top 10 favorite video games of all time. I'm not talking about the best rated, necessarily... just your favorites.
1. Civilization IV
2. Baldur's Gate 2
3. Mass Effect 2
4. Madden 2005
5. Baldur's Gate
6. Hearts of Iron II
7. Age of Empires
9. Goldeneye
9. Madden 12
10. Grand Theft Auto (the original top-down game)

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite Video Games
These are my top favorite PC GAMES, either in terms of how much I've played it repeatedly or how much I just enjoyed playing the game... I'll maybe do another list of non-pc games.
1. The Secret of Monkey Island (and the immediate sequel LeChuck's Revenge)
2. Heroes of Might and Magic Series (I've played most of the games, except for one or two the latest and some expansions)
3. Age of Empires Series (only up to the 2nd installment's expansion pack "The Conquerors"
4. The Sims (1, 3...I skipped 2)
5. DOOM Series (1, 2, 3)
6. Wolfenstein 3D
7. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (and probably Vice City too)
8. Rollercoaster Tycoon (1 and 2)
9. SIM Farm (I use to love this game back in the day)
10. Diablo II

There are some amazing games in there. Early 90's Bitmap Bros games (SB2) were amazing. Chaos Engine (top down shooter) and Gods were awesome as well.
Mine are in no particular order:
WoW (sad but true, I cant not put on this list considering the amount of time ive invested in it)
Magika
Speedball 2
That amazing chopper flying flash game where all you do is click ur mouse to control its height
Heros of Might and Magic series
UFO Alien invasion and terror from the deep
Worms (non 3d versions only)
Cannon Fodder
Super Cars 2
Pirates
I go to the gym to justify my mockery of fat people.

I disagree man, although it was sweet that it was so easy to customize the game, both with adjusting the pictures of the units (and effects, like explosions) and tweaking the stats of the units.
The first one I played was Civ3, but then I went back and bought I and II to see what they were like. Civ1 I played a bit, and it was really fun for an old game like that. I've spent about an equal amount of time each on Civ2, 3, and 4; now I just got 5 a couple weeks ago and it's awesome too!

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite Video Games
i'm in no position to say what the 10 best video games are, as i've only played a small subset of them. however, i will list the top 10 video games that i have enjoyed the most, that i have spent the most time on, that i view as having outstanding design, or that have influenced my life in the most profound way.
these are ten of the best video games ever created:
1. super mario 64: my first video game and likely the reason i play so many video games today. possibly the most influential game ever created. single-handedly began and mastered 3d platform gaming, free-roaming style game design, and many other standards of the industry
2. super smash bros. melee: the best fighting game ever created and one of the most technically demanding games ever. i have traveled to competitive melee tournaments for a number of years now. won money, lost money, made friends, had great times
3. rollercoaster tycoon: the single greatest achievement by an individual person in the history of video games. chris sawyer wrote this entire game by himself IN FUCKING ASSEMBLY LANGUAGE. it went on to sell many millions of copies and sucked up countless hours of my childhood
4. league of legends: i've put at least 500 hours into this game over the past year or so. it's just really fucking fun, i dunno. amazing replay value, great design, and it pioneered a unique payment model that proved extremely successful
5. minecraft: probably the second greatest individual achievement in the history of video games. the simplest and possibly most brilliant game ever made. took sandbox gaming to its extreme, and gave more power to the player than any game had before. also impressive due to selling millions of copies purely by word of mouth and an extremely loyal fanbase
6. animal crossing: this game redefined for me what video games were about. this was the only video game that i played with my sister (and only sibling) on a regular basis. it required little skill or coordination. it was about socialization, creation, and immersion. a complete paradigm shift which was extremely addicting
7. pokemon silver: the pokemon series took the standard RPG gameplay of the day, and gave it twice as much depth while making it twice as fun and easy to enjoy. there's a reason every single kid in america knew about it. you really have to play it to appreciate it. i put silver here because i put the most time into it and it was better than blue
8. runescape: very large and immersive mmorpg for its day. mostly here because of the immense amount of time i played this game as a kid
9: the sims: another simulation game that was ridiculously popular due to its replay value and addictiveness. DANCE MY PUPPETS DANCE
10: legend of zelda ocarina of time: another one of my favorites as a kid. considered by critics to be the greatest video game ever made
i look forward to seeing the rest of you explain why your generic first-person shooters and RPG's meet higher standards of the art form than these games do

Dammit! I forgot Medieval 2: Total War (Stainless Steel mod is the best; also the Lord of the Rings mod).
In college, my roommate and I would play Age of Empires against the guys in the next dorm room. Fun times.

Stainless Steel mod goes without saying, my ninja.
@MeDeFe,
Dungeon Keeper was a ground-breaking game. It seems to have had so much more potential though.
