Hippo has taken a well-deserved vacation so is off in the oceans of the South Pacific, which gives me the pleasant opportunity to present this issue of the Dispatch.
The interviewee this issue is Trinicardinal, and as expected of a Chatter, waxes lyrical on all topics under the sun. I thankfully get an honorary mention in his discourse, and am only one of many that have gotten the chance to know this esteemed individual. *cough cough* for a second there I was wondering if I really was talking about the bosom bud of Ace!

My own attention was on the latest TPA2 results, as the latest update makes me regret the 1 game loss that helped games-man Swifte close the gap to my own partner dowian2 in the leaderboard!
Foundry has made me ponder a bit. The articles have always been top-notch, and they enticed me to try my own hand at commenting on maps in beta etc. That was not a pretty affair as I found myself a fish out of water! So after floundering my way around, and feeling out of my depth at some points, in the end I found it to be a quite rewarding experience, to be able to help in the development of maps in unique and creative ways.
Plus, it's always better to be acquainted with a map before it's thrust upon you in Random
Strategy found itself to be an interesting concept, but tougher in execution, and we've made the collective decision that it's probably best to fold it back into it's rightful home of Freestyle!
Finally, I'm off to publish this issue, and I leave you with some insight into the travails of Dispatch publishing courtesy of the step-by-step guide pioneered by hippo in the preceding issue:

Q. How much do you enjoy being the Head Chatter compared to a Chatter?
A lot more – it’s a lot more fun especially when coming up with new ideas for Live Chat Events. At least I don’t have to worry about it being turned down by anyone else (well except for admin)
Q. Who is your hero on CC? In real life? In fiction?
Hero on CC - ironically enough Ace Rimmer. Anytime I’m not sure on what to do as Head Chatter I ask myself what he would do.

You mean he does it while awake? I always thought he sleep modded. I'm sure I've heard snores while he was banning somebody!

I hate having to ban people. Sometimes they leave me with no choice though.

I have no real favorite although World 2.1 has been relatively good to me
Q. What is the largest number of people youve seen in Live Chat at one time?
Probably about 35 or so when lack decided to stress test LC.. In doing so I think he inadvertently also stress tested the Chat mods who were present at the time.

1) I'm pretty pleased but why wasn’t I asked for permission first?

Sure. I’ll double your salary. 2 times zero is how much again? I was never that great at maths… Given that I’m an accountant/auditor I feel sorry for my clients.

Hmmm… I’d probably enjoy it if I wasn’t married ... ofc that depends on exactly what you mean by having to growl you.

I have no idea... they were probably approaching a deadline and no one else had agreed to be interviewed... in other words they got desperate.

I wouldn’t know, but I don’t consider you to be dull

hmm... I think that was supposed to be courier one of the puppies in which case I might but my credit card is maxed out and I’m trying to hide from the bill collectors so you will probably have to wait a while.

It’s a local game called All Fours and incidentally my nickname came out of me playing that game.

I’m not sure…. I don’t really know their real names. If you're talking usernames then its cooldeals (as you expected)
Q. Do you often befriend people with mental disorders in chat?
I don’t befriend them… they befriend me and ironically enough they gave me their real names. None, however, start with a “c”
Q. Have any of the above ever tried to visit/contact you in real life?
If they did I wasn’t home at the time and they didn’t leave a “while you were away” card/bomb.
Q. What does it mean to "growl" someone?
As a married man I don’t want to know (unless I’m about to growl my wife)
Q. Do you offer free life counseling to help people become awesome like you?
I’m not awesome. I just try to figure out what Ace Rimmer would have done and do likewise. In other words I’m messed up.
Q. Can we expect more events in the live chat in the future? I (NoSurvivors) know there aren't as many now. Would you agree this could make it more lively?
Yes I believe it would make it livelier and that is why I’ve tried to increase what we’ve had. In fact we will be having one in the near future called Find the hidden Room. We're going to give clues and you have to find the room that the clues relate to. The first person to join the room gets a point. The person with the highest score out of 20 rooms will win a medal. We'll try to run it at least twice although I'm hoping for 3 times (at different CC times) so that everyone will have a chance to play regardless of timezone. We'll be looking to have the event nearer the end of February or early March so I would suggest that you keep an eye out for it.
Q. How many bottles of sun tan lotion do you go thru in a month?
None – I don’t use the stuff. Did you want me to rub some on your back though?

Landscape shots are my favourite but I do take some shots of people (mostly my wife and daughter) I won’t mention the porn shots… ooops.. guess I did mention them

We’ve faced this a few times in Live Chat… Generally speaking its both since they’ve usually both violated the same rule and I can’t discipline one and not the other.. That’s not fair. Needless to say sometimes the second person isn’t very pleased with me when that happens (especially since they probably made the complaint in the first place) but like I say.. fair is fair. that's like saying bust him (and not me) because he did what I did.. only he did it first. Sorry… what’s good for one is good for all.
Q. How many times have you typed a reply and then clicked send before realising:
a. You misspelled a word completely changing the context;
b. You did not read what the other person said properly and now your response makes no sense;
c. You've just accidentally said something that you shouldn't;
d. You can't understand your own response;
e. You cringe and realise that you are boring even yourself; and/or
f. You've just started world war three.

Q. Is it your fault that the Chat program keeps causing my (thehippo8) computer to crash?
Of course not.. you just need to throw your computer in the trash and buy a new one from me… I can give you a special deal on “immune” computers

a. Unfortunately, yes.. the worst is when I’m the one giving the interesting story

Q. Do you wish that more people would get involved in chatting?
Yes.. that’s also one of the reasons I want to have more events.. to encourage more people to come to Live Chat
Q. What does CC do with all the chat info - or are you writing a book?
I don’t know what CC does with it but I have built up a few hundred pages of blackmail material I mean interesting chat quotes.
Q. Where are chocolates?
All over but Trinidad Cocoa is very prominent in a lot of them… especially in some of the best! Luckily for me I had some very generous client this last year so i got quite a bit of free chocolate.
Q. What player that used to be active in live chat but is no longer, do you miss the most?
Ace Rimmer… he’s cool and funny and always had an interesting perspective in LC. In addition during the time that he’s been around he’s the best Head Chatter we’ve had in LC.
Dazerazer ranks second.
Thankfully they both made recent appearances and it would appear that dazey will be back more regularly especially. Ace still doesn’t seem like he will be around very often unfortunately.
Q. What player that used to be active in live chat but is no longer, do you miss the least?
I try not to dwell on negatives so I can’t really provide any names… If I don’t miss them them Its really because I don’t remember them anyway unless someone reminds me of a particular name.
Q. If you had to make a sales pitch to promote live chat, what would you say?
I hate sales pitches. I figure if the product can’t speak for itself then it’s not really worth much. LC speaks for itself. The proof being in the number of new people who come into LC and end up being regulars yourself included. If anyone wants a sales pitch visit LC a few times and judge for yourself.. I’ll let LC make its own sales pitch.
Q. Who on this site, that is not a live chat regular, would you most like to see in live chat?
Just about everyone as long as they like chatting we would love them to be in Chat, The thing I find cool about LC is that it’s like a one stop shop.. You can get answers to your questions, arrange games and Chat. You can even create your own private room for your purpose.. lots of clans use it for planning. Live mafia is played in a private room. We’ve even created spam rooms so we can legally post spam not to mention the joke corner etc. Its amazing what you can do in there really.
Q. Who on this site, that is not a live chat regular, would you absolutely not like to see in live chat?
I can’t say there’s any user that fits this one… Anyone who wants to use LC, whether for arranging games, getting help or simply chatting is welcome.. All we ask is that you follow the rules and have fun.

1. Not at this present time.
2. Lots of people. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.

4. I’d like to think that they think I’m a fair and balanced person who tries to make LC fun. You'll have to ask them to be sure though.

6. Sounds like you’re asking for a sales pitch.. as I said I hate those. What I can do is give you some of the advantages of LC… In a lot of ways it’s like a mini but faster version of the Forums. A big advantage though is the ability to create private rooms for private realtime discussions where you don’t have to worry about being bothered by the Mods and only need to worry about those people that you have invited in…
Those rooms can be a wonderful place to relax in. I often have several extra rooms open (in addition to the basic 3)
They’re useful for rt mafia games, clan discussions, private department discussions, and so much more. Normally you can get answers to lots of questions as well.. Having trouble with figuring out a map.. ask and you normally will get someone who can tell you.. want advice on a move… That’s done there as well… Heck one of our conquerors – 100 mates is often there as well as other top players and several of them are very helpful. Got a question on site rules/guidelines and we can give you the answer.. just want to hang out? It’s the perfect place.
That’s why I say it speaks for itself. If you take some time to get to know the tricks of Live Chat you can have lots of fun over there. As I said before all we ask is that you behave while there.

1. Vodean - he’s way too anxious to hit on guys (I’m ignoring his drunken confession) so he’s obviously a 50 year old, balding potbellied man living in a rented attic and hoping to score some pics while pretending to be otherwise.. he just mixed up the target group a little because he smoked too much pot in his lifetime. Either that or he really, really wanted some free premium.
2. Arya - Obviously this is your multi so you can claim to be both male and female in an attempt to get the most photographs possible.
3. Marpesia - definitely a man going through a middle age crisis (he just bought a Harley) evidenced by the fact that he collects user's pictures but can only post one picture (in private) of a hairy man with D cup boobs.
4. Dazerazer – yet another multi but one who uses his cousin’s pictures to back up his stories. This guy though is 26 years old and still living with his parents.. He hardly bathes and never shaves and is obsessed with video games and big boobs, not to mention the pictures of his cousin.

Hmmm… this might surprise some I was born and raised a Hindu. Then I met and married my wife upon which I converted and am now a Muslim. That being said I believe that all religions have the same basic elements and essential teaching to them and how we live (aka how we go about our daily lives) is more important than how many times we go to a place of worship.
Q. Do you miss GLGH in the live chat?
He’s one I tend not to remember so basically no.
Q. How many time have you had to tell eddie2 to shut up?
I tend to count using my fingers and toes so I reached 20 before I lost count. (again I feel sorry for my clients) Interestingly enough I think I've only had to kick him once. At least when you tell him to shut up he listens
Q. If you could have additional regular rooms to LC, what rooms would get added?
I wouldn’t add any more rooms actually… What I would do is add some more smilies… maybe a few more color options and add something to Control panel so that people could choose which tab will be their default tab (initially set to Help for New Recruits). Right now I can see the tech guys probably having a heart attack and being very glad that the decision is not mine to make.
Q. What are the chances of getting social as the first tab you arrive in when joining chat, instead of help?
That’s actually not within my purview at all…so I can’t give you a proper answer. I can make/pass on the suggestions but the decisions are up to admin. What I can say is that the question has already been raised and we are also (right now) examining Live Chat for some possible improvements (again I can’t give a time frame) With any luck we’ll get that and some more smilies as well as some other changes as well (not necessarily in that order).
Q. What was the criteria for the recent live chat user appreciation awards?
I’ll give you the process. Live Chat users and moderators made nominations for possible recipients. That list was then voted on by the chat mods. In voting we basically looked at the person’s overall activity levels in Chat and especially how helpful they were to others and their overall behaviour in chat. Those who were awarded medals were widely recognized as exhibiting lots of positive traits in Live Chat thereby making it a more pleasant experience.
Those who won premium were ones who especially exhibited positive traits inside of LC and again that was voted on by the chat mods after we had the list of medal recipients but we also try to share around the premium so that in the case of a tie previous LC premium winners are not as likely to get it again.
Q. I (Ace Rimmer) think that there is a strong possibility that Lennay Kekua was really InsomniaRed. What is your opinion?
I’m not sure… its always possible… did you see any porn with Lennay Kekua?
Q. Do you follow US politics at all? What is your opinion of President Obama?
I try not to worry about Politics much… we have enough headaches with that in Trinidad as it is. Because of that I have not really formed a lot of opinions on President Obama

I’m no science expert so I’ll answer this way - Defining black as the absence of light and given that light cannot escape from a black hole (afaik) then it will look black… come to think of its also “black” to other radiation detectors… but the area around them would probably be a mass of activity in a lot of ways.. in other words go figure.

That depends on how you define eat

Blue is a colour.. not a temperature. A blue star is hotter that a red star while blue on an infrared satellite picture shows a region colder that the red areas.. you pick which one you want to use

Yes it is. Rambling is my second. although if you really want to get technical "Trini" (which is a corrupted slang filled form of English) is my first language

If we’re lucky, sometime this year but it’s not my decision to make.

My CC name is basically the handle I’ve used from years… it’s an adaptation of a nickname I got about 19 years ago (while playing All Fours) that pretty much stuck. I added on the trini because I'm from Trinidad
Q. How did you come across CC?
The same way a lot of others have - Searching for online risk-like games
Q. Have you ever thought about making your own map and if so what would it be?
I have thought about it and If I do get around to one it would probably be a map of Trinidad & Tobago

Well a secret by definition is a secret… it’s up to you to try to find out but I’m not going to tell you.
Q. If you could have any super power what would it be and what would you use it for?
I’d go with the power to fly… at least that way I shouldn't be stuck in traffic to/from work (not to mention the savings from not having to put gas in the car). Win, win!
Q. If you could visit one place in human history where would you go?
Why are you(plurple) limiting me to only one? With that Tardis of yours you can surely carry me to more than one spot! Oh well If I had to pick one I’d probably go back to the early days of the T&T stock exchange and buy a few hundred thousand shares.
Q. If you could meat any famous person dead or alive who would you meet?
I don’t want to chop anyone up into meat… I’m not a cannibal! … as for meeting someone… I wouldn’t mind meeting Ghandi. That would be very interesting assuming I could understand anything he said… although I’m not too sure how communicative he’ll be now since he's dead.
Q. If you could invent one invention what would it be?
A Cheap, easily manufactured yet Eco friendly fuel system
Q. What would your dream job be?
One where I can stay home… play CC, hang out in Live Chat and earn a few hundred thousand dollars every month… needless to say I haven’t found a job like that yet.
Q. What CC improvement do you want the most?
I’d love to see a proper sitter function put in place so you don’t have to give you password to anyone and when you r sitter takes a turn its automatically announced in game chat.
Q. Which is your favourite map?
I think I covered this before… no real favorites… my best scoring map has been World 2.1
Q. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won lots of money?
Gifts for my family (and I have to buy some plane tickets for some CC players)… then I’m going investing,… maybe after that I can stay home and play CC and hang out in Live Chat all while earning hundreds of thousands of dollars a month… wait… how much money is lots of money?
Q. What is your favourite colour?
Generally blue, sometimes red. depends on what the colour is for actually
Q. I (plurple) don't feel that LC is live enough so could you accommodate it at your place?
Sure… I don’t mind if they put the servers there…once they’re paying for electricity, rent and the internet connection.
Q. Who is your favourite off-topics poster and why?
That’s a tough one because there are so many to choose from for so many different reasons. Its generally interesting reading posts from Gillipig, Gilligan, Andy, Robinette, AOG, Nietzsche, Phatscotty, DoomYoshi, Crazyirishman, FunkyTerrance, saxi, jonesey, Symmetry, Mr Changsha, as well as others . I’m really hard pressed to pick a favourite out of them.
Q. How do you feel about the gun control debate in america?
I think it’s just silly quite frankly. Granted I haven’t looked in depth at it but it all seems to be a knee jerk reaction to me.
Q. Who is your favourite mod?
Another hard one.. there are so many great mods and some that I’ve hardly interacted with. I’ve always had good interactions with iron, den, Isaiah, koontz, nobodies, Arya, Leehar, pcm, blake, SirSeb, strike, Duk, hippo, saf, Mets, all of them from Tech, TD’s, the Hunters, and ofc the Chatters (past and present).. don’t ask me to limit it to one
Q. What is your favorite game type?
Anything that’s not too demanding on me right now…. I like strategy games especially but I don’t have that much times for games… CC fits well.. here I generally play mostly standard or terminator games but my game count is low.
Q. Favorite CC partner?
I don’t play many team games but so far, what was probably my best team experience was a quads game with Swifte, cooldeals and BGtheBrain. So we have a 3 way tie for that category. Pirlo is also awesome especially when learning a map that he knows (Monsters in my case) and team games with the Chatters were quite good also for various Whac A Mod games. Playing on a team game with Ace Rimmer is great also… but it’s a lot of fun to play against him.
Q. What do you think about 11 posts in a row by the same person?
I’ve gotten used to his Attention Deficiency issues so I’m not surprised.. I’m just glad he didn’t do it in Live Chat
Q. Who is your favorite ex-mod?
Gee… also so many to choose from… Ace Rimmer, Gilligan, Victor Sullivan, e84, Masli,
Gotta go with Ace Rimmer on that one though…. After all who else is going to tell me that we’re like brothers from different mothers?
Q. What do you think about those colorful unicorns?
They’re very colourful but why did you put food colouring on them??
Q. If you had to choose your successor out of the current LC mods who would you choose?
nagerous is second in command and his main challenge as head mod was his time dure to rl. As long as he could manage it I’d give him back the job.[/spoiler]

Hello again my friends, and welcome to your favorite part of the Newsletter, "War Games", where you can find information about CC Tournaments! Join This? Or Not, TPA Wrap, and Dave's Tournament Tips -- all your favourites!

[spoiler=Analysis of termination Information]When a game is finished and archived the round information is not retained. This can be problematical for any TO who might be giving additional points to serial terminations, such as the prolific TO, greenoaks, as he does in his Good Luck, Good Hunting series. In these tournaments a player gets 1 point for a termination but then 3 points for the next termination if it is in the same round (and so on); i.e. another player has not played a move between terminations.
If we look at part of the full game log:
You can see that immediately after the termination there is information about points lost and gained by both players, otherwise if there were another termination that same round, there would be no other players name as the first text after the date and time date.
So, if we were to automate a programme to analyse the full game log, it would have to scan down the lines to find the word "eliminated", ignore the next line and check if the same player's name occurs up to the next termination. Simple in theory but the world of programming is never straight forward!
The following routine produces the following summary from the full game log:
The full game text is pasted (as paste special - text) in the area indicated and the button links to the macro detailed below. The second termination is in the same round so has the "IN SAME ROUND" text after it (if required this could also put in points and the player's name). What the programme does is scan down all lines of the log, erasing them from their position and rewriting at the top for analysis. Only if "eliminated" is found is the text retained, in which case the player's name is kept and compared with every name subsequently until the next "eliminated" is found. Obviously, apart from the points line, the same player's name will be on every line if it is the same round, otherwise it must be a "1 point" termination.

(These "tips" started off as ones that I used to make it a bit easier in managing my own tournaments. Now, I am looking at other types of tournaments and scoring systems by all you innovative TO's out there. So, if you have a unique scoring system that you would like me to have a go at automating, please let me know and I'll be pleased to try and assist. Well, we are truly well into the new year now. Nothing new to play on this year apart from New Zealand but we do have 3 maps almost ready to play and should be in beta any day now. Madrid with its colourful graphics and easy gameplay. Moscow has a local flair to it. Philadelphia whilst not being a classic city, has brought another city to life. So how is the classic map coverage going then. Lets see.
Quenched Beta In Foundry Attempted but failed So only Oceania has been finished.
This issue, we have some thoughts from yours truly over a very old idea that got dug up recently, generalhead asks what would the foundry or even the site be without the help of volunteers and lastly, which maps are in the foundry right now. Some new ones so make sure you take a look and help those ones you want to see in play. If anyone has been wondering what has happened to the competitions, do not despair, they will make a return next issue.
