database categories

Post by Dukasaur »

Maybe it's time for an overhaul of the database categories.

It struck me very odd that my new Polymorphic Trips tournament is listed as Triples rather than 1v1. Personally if I had to do one or the other I would have said "1v1". It is quite debatable which one it should be, but really neither one fits well. Polymorphic games require a whole new category that is neither quite team nor quite 1v1.

And, if we're going to add a new category for Polymorph, maybe now is the time to look at all the categories and see if there are any others that perhaps need to be modified?

Yes, it is. But it plays like a team game, not like a standard 1v1. I think Polymorph should be a separate category that is neither of those.

But if nobody except me and you is discussing it, maybe it doesn't matter.

Interesting debate, but it is 1 persons "strategy" versus another, therefore 1 vs 1.

Yep, it probably should be its own type. There are still standing requests for updating the system to have multiple tags per tournament as well as adding more descriptors, but I don't know where those stand in the priority lists.

i don't mind if it has it's own but right now 1v1 is the correct option, not Triples. atm someone who doesn't have 2 team mates is going to avoid entering your thread.

and i'm with NS on this, an overhaul is needed. i think it was discussed a year or two ago but didn't go anywhere. maybe 3 categories - Game Type, Play Order, Special Gameplay.

I can't promise that this will happen with the next few weeks. But I can tell you that we will be turning our focus towards tournaments soon.
