Is there any way to change the colors I uses for myself or see for others?
I'm tired of mixing up greens and blues. I know about the contrast adjustment and that helps. Also the color codes but I'd rather just assign colors as I see fit.

go to settings and turn on the color codes
It doesn't change the colors, but makes it easier

No, but one thing that might help is a white circle behind each region so the troop numbers aren't overlaid on a confusing background colour. This can be done with the panel interface.
If you're not using panels, you can activate it under 'Settings' found on the left nav. Turn panels on and enter a game. In-game click on the tab which says 'settings' and adjust circle opacity to like 80% or something.
