Poly Goal [20/20] Ongoing - Completed. Winner is Tin Trumpet
It's been years since the last time I made a tournament. This time it's gonna be a little different. I wanted to do it long time ago, but it had to be quadruples, which sucks and requires too many players. Today we can have the same concept under Poly, so let's get to the point!
Map: Europa
Settings: Poly 4, No Spoils, Trench, Sunny, Auto, Sequential, 20-round limit.
Type: Group stage of 4 groups leading to a final round robin stage.
Number of participant: 20 (maybe 16 if can't fill up quickly).
RULES: Please, read the below rules very carefully because they could be a little complicated.
This tournament calculations are based on football (aka soccer) rules. You get 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 point for a defeat.
How do you win, lose or draw?
To win a game, you have to eliminate your opponent's color(s) more than losing colors of your own in a given game within the first 9 rounds. It doesn't matter if you end up winning or losing the entire game after round 9. For the purpose of this Tournament, all you need to do for a win to count is to reach round 9 of your game with more kills, as each kill is considered a 'goal;' hence the Tournament name is Poly Goal. so you just need to score more than concede in a single game in order to win it a grab the 3 points. The player with more points will be ahead of the one with lesser points in the standing table.
Sometimes you know a game is going bad and you can't win it, but for the purpose of this Tournament, you can try to survive until round 9 and grab a point if you manage to make to round 9 with a draw, which is better than a defeat and zero point. In other times, you could manage to eliminate a color of your opponent and all your colors survive by round 9 to remain ahead, and lose the overall game after round 9; in this case, you would still win the game 1-0 and grab the 3 points. This is how it will work.
If you hit the "RESIGN" button prior to the completion of round 9, you will lose 4-0, which is the highest defeat possible, so try to avoid it. If you think you are losing anyway, just be patient and lose 0-1, 0-2, 1-2... etc. instead of quitting to be registered as a 0-4 loser.
How will I count the kills and eliminations accurately? I will just read the Elimination Summary of the game and see who kills whom and when, or I will otherwise read the game log and count all kills and eliminations occurring prior to the sentence marking the end of round 9, which reads "Incrementing game to round 10."
We will have four groups of 5 participants played in a round robin format. The top three participants of each group will advance to the final stage, which consists of 12 players.
How to win the Tournament? You have to advance to the final round robin stage consisting of 12 players then you have to rack the highest number of points at the standing table by winning as many games as possible / needed.
In case of a tie between two or more players, either in group stage or final stage, we will count the head to head clash (or the relevant games in case of three or more players). If the tie remains, we will count the difference between goals scored and conceded by each player, and the one with the highest difference in his favor will be the winner.
General Achievement Medals
If approved by Tournament Mods (they didn't say no anyway), two general achievement medals will be awarded.
One will go to the player conceding the least goals, i.e. the player whose colors suffer the lease number of eliminations from his games. In other words, the player with the solidest defense will win this medal.
The other general achievement medal will go to the player with the strongest attack, i.e. the player who achieve the highest number of kills/eliminations.
However, in order to be eligible for a general achievement medal, you have to be among the 12 players competing in the final stage because players who get knocked out from group stage will have a much bigger chance to concede less since they play much less games, which is unfair.
The purpose of these general achievement medals is to encourage players to avoid throwing their game(s) too early because giving an opponent easy 4-0 win could unfairly and adversely affect the overall competition and other competitors.
Additional rule: All stats and achievements you make in the group stage will only count for qualifying to the final stage. They will reset once the final stage begins. The general achievement medals will solely be based on the final stage stats.
How will the group stage seeding work? The 20 players (or 16) will be divided into four groups A, B, C and D. depending on each player's points at the time of holding the draw, there will be five (or four) levels of players. Top four players will be in Pool 1; second four will be in Pool 2; third four players will be in Pool 3; fourth four players will be in Pool 4; and fifth four players will be in Pool 5. Each group will randomly have one player from each pool to make sure all groups are balanced.
I will let you know about the pools when all signups are completed. Random.org will be used for the draw.
I hope I haven't forgotten anything
Cheerz!

Btw you can't resign in tournament games anyways
Thanks for enlightening me! I've been away for so long, and the resign was my biggest concern and headache regarding this tourney.
EDIT: Added round limit to 20 to make sure the games won't last forever.
Re: Poly Goal
You need to have minimum 16 players or this tournament won't be approved.

It's a round robin. I thought it was allowed to have as few as 8. It looks like many things have changed here.
Re: Poly Goal
The original post has been edited to meet the requirements, and the format has been modified.
Re: Poly Goal (EDITED)
Welcome everybody. Signups will be added to the list once the tourney is approved by mods!

What changed? Just the round structure? Still in.
Have you considered sending the invites for the finals in 2 batches? 11 games at a time seems pretty high
PS if you decide to send 2 batches, here's a possible way to have everyone get the same number of games on each set
player 1=a, player 2=b, player 12=l
If you class the possible games a-l can play by columns (col 1= ab-al, and so on), you'll get a table whose rows will look like that
1. ab bc ... jk kl
2. ac bd ... ik jl
3. ad be ... hk il
4. ae bf ... gk hl
5. af bg ... fk gl
6. ag bh ... ek fl
7. ah bi cj dk el
8. ai bj ck dl
9. aj bk cl
10. ak bl
11. al
You'll note that everyone has 2 games in the 1st row, except the 2 extremes, a and l. Same for the second row, but a,b, k and l have only 1 game. That means that if you combine rows 1&11, everyone has 2 games. Same for round 2&10. Splitting the games in 2 batches could be done by sending invites for 1,2,3,9,10,11 (6 games ea) then 4,5,6,7,8 (5 games)
Of course they will be in batches. Don't worry about the round robin fixture; challonge.com will sort everything out!
