The Thing TOWN WINS!

I'm going to skip much of the beginning of the movie and start it around the time someone was infected by the sled dog.
*Ahem*
It's a cold, dreary night in the Antarctica base. Everyone suspects someone to be that...
Thing. R.J MacReady and his glorious mullet comes up with a brilliant idea that this
Thing are all trying to survive on their own and that single cells will react to a hot needle, but given the tensions, no one will be willing enough to submit to the test. It's up to the science team to band together and eliminate
The Thing before it kills everyone!
(Please read the Rules as there is a mechanic for town that will be needed).
Rules
1.The moderator is always right. Do not try and argue with them. However we are all human and we all make mistakes. The moderator will try and fix any mistake he or she may have made.
2. Do not edit/delete previous posts. Whatever you say goes into historical record.
3. Do not quote any PM's you receive from the moderator or another player. You may say your name, role, associated abilities. This is a serious offence and could earn you a mod-kill, and/or a blacklist from future games.
4. The game will not be discussed outside this thread, unless your role specifically says you can.
5. Lynch ‘votes’ and ‘unvotes’ must be in bold Blue. Blood test votes will be in bold Red. If they are not, they will not be tallied. You must first unvote and then vote to change your vote from someone. Mods may change this according to their wishes. IE: Vote Rooginan. Blood Test (or just BT) BT Sonic.
6. Blood Testing is NOT a lynch. Town will vote to check a persons "blood" to see if they are The Thing.
7. Lynching requires a majority of the total votes, once the majority has been reached any unvotes will not be counted. The majority is half the players alive +1.
8. You may vote ‘no lynch’ to end the day without a death.
9. Lengths of days depend on moderators. Usually they are indefinite until the game starts dragging and then the moderator enforces a deadline.
(I will implement a deadline if there is a lack of direction/deadlock).
10. Lengths of nights depend on moderator. Try and send the actions earlier if possible, and save everyone time. It's a hassle for the moderator to pm everyone who hasn't sent in an action. (Nights will last for 48 hours, regardless if you sent a night action or not).
11. Once your death scene has been posted, it's over for you. You can no longer post anything related to the game. Whining is alright, **Voices from beyond the grave** are alright, as long as nothing of substance is revealed. This means you can post something like "Damn you mafia!" or "Oh well. Go town!" but you cannot post and add to the discussion. This is a serious offence.
12. Be attentive and active in the game. You will be replaced if you don't post. If something prevents you to participate for a long period of time, announce it here or via PM. Help everyone's enjoyment of the game by being active and sending your actions promptly. (Given the small player count and lack of reserves, I may just end up modkilling if there is a lack of posting).
13. You cannot talk at night. You can do joke votes like "zzzzzz" if you want but don't let it get out of hand. Different moderators have different tolerance levels. (I generally don't like it too much, but I don't mind the occasional joke).
14. If you have any questions or doubts, send a private message to the moderator and ask for help. It would be much worse to remain unsure about your role, mafia rules, whatever than to ask the moderator and then understand.
15. This is the basic list of rules. Moderators will have their own specific changes or additions to rules. Make sure to check them.
16. Have fun!

So just to confirm, as I've never played a cult game here before:
We start with X Things, likely just 1. Each night, they convert someone to be part of their Thing gang. Every Thing dies when the original Thing dies?
Blood Tests... are also a way to end the day?

Firm con...t...giggle.
Anyway...it's a good question if BT ends the day. Or if we have multiple per day. Likely, we just have one it ends the day. What does the mod say?

I'm guessing that the BT is our equivalent of a cop night investigation where the target is decided by group vote. I don't know what would happen if there's no top choice.

That seems like an obvious conclusion, but we're discussing whether or not it will end the day, or if we do both.
If it ends the day, does that, then, mean that we don't get to lynch anyone?
If it doesn't end the day, and we lynch someone, does that, then, mean that whoever has the most votes will be tested? Or do we have to come to a majority vote?

We have to come to a majority vote in any case i think. And if blood testing ends the day or not, I think finding that out is part of the suspense. Who Goes There?

I don't think it would make sense to have a BT end the day. Then you'd have to choose between an investigation and a lynch.

Agree. It would be nice to know if the result is immediate, but I must confess that I can't remember if I read about that when reading the rules.

yeah I also got a question with blood tests? The result would come the next day, right, as it wouldnt make much sense if it comes the EOD as then the thing or whatever would just target him, no?.

And if it comes next day, do night actions (i.e. getting converted in this case) influence the result?

If i remember the movie correctly the test gives an immediate result - basically because every cell (even the blood cells) of the "infected" person is indepedent like a swarm of ants.
So every part of the Thing is an individual life-form with its own survival instinct.
The test is taking blood and then trying to "sting" the blood with a superhot needle. The individual blood cells will wanna survive by jumping away from the needle.. so result is immediate.
The problem will be figuring out who to test (immediatly the right one) because overnight we will have to find 2 things.. also there is a mechanic in here if i get it right. The mechanic is named Childs in the movie and plays an important role.
So asking who the mechanic is will be a dilemma to TheThing. He cannot counterclaim its him too (because then we know its just 2 suspects and we have 50% chance getting him). So if the Mechanic claims its not 1 out of 10 but 1 out of 9 chance to get it right today.
But if we dont find TheThing today he could infect the Mechanic..Dimemma!

No every Thing stays alive on its own. They just multiply but are individually alive.
Im thinking 1 Thing to start but Degaston posted this:

That could mean there are 2 Things already in play?
"with one converted person of his choice"

Mod note: Blood tests do not end the day. Think of it as a town cop with majority vote. It'll be tallied the same way.

If there's a lynch before there is a majority BT vote, does that mean there will be no BT, even if there's a plurality for one player??

Ok, that answers one of the quetions.
So we should run a blood test every day, right?
We got today a 1 in 10 or maybe, but unlikely, 2 in 10 to get the thing today

I am reading up on cult games and rewatching the film for the first time since childhood. It is a good movie.
I still don't get everything but I do get that figuring out the rules in play is part of the game.
Btw, can someone rig that Thing score sample to play at low volume every time this thread is opened. No? maybe not.
