When I first saw the story, I thought it was because of quarantine regulations or something.

Nope, it's just that they don't want to have to pay for the lost hamsters.

Particularly important since those things are flown by computers. Last I read there were still five of the little buggers still on the loose. That plane may never fly again. You've got to wonder what the insurance company thinks about the whole thing.
