chemistry trivia - guess a molecule!

Post by Simonov »

this thread is made for all you out there who are fond of world of molecules - enthusiasts, chemistry or related faculty students, professors, scientists etc.

this are the rules:
- you choose some a molecule, post it's image and 5 short informations about chosen substance (try to make it not so obvious, i want to find some new info).
-when someone guess what substance is in question he gets to chose next one

i'll start:

Image

information about this substance are written in white so if you can't guess what it is from it's structure (which is very hard) you can reveal this information one by one

1.this substance was introduced by Sandoz Laboratories as a drug with various psychiatric uses

2.it's creator first tested it on himself and that event is now known as bicycle day

3.CIA used to test it's effects on student volunteers who got payed for this

4.raw substance from which it's synthesized is extracted from a grain fungus that usually grows on rye

5.it's an entheogen that was very popular among members of rave subculture

btw i want full chemical name as an answer. (don't mean IUPAC by that, that would be too long)

Like I said, just a guess.

However, I'm stuck for finding any of them nifty pictures, so I'll leave this one until I think one up :) Anyone else can feel free to post a new 'un though.

sorry man it's wrong. but good job for trying cena.

wrong, anthrax is a bacteria - Bacillus anthracis to be exact.

p.s. one more hint:
- in mid-1939, the formula for the agent was passed to the Chemical Warfare section of the German Army Weapons Office, which ordered that it be brought into mass production for wartime use. Agent was incorporated into artillery shells, but Germany ultimately decided not to use nerve agents against Allied targets fearing the allied retribution by same means.
