Double Turns

Post by Scarus »

In all my years of online Risk I've never heard of such a thing as double turns, or imagined that anyone would want such a thing. Now, I see that most of the games here permit this, and apparently most people want this. I just don't understand. I don't see any legitmate purpose being served by making it possible for someone to take two turns in a row, (or four turns, in a doubles game). It just seems like cheap trickery to win by some other means than actually playing well.

I'm not going to cry about it. I understand that if I don't want to play in these types of games, then I simply don't have to join them. I just don't understand why anyone would. It seems to me that most of these games are started by people who want to take advantage of the naviete of others, and simply wait for the marks to stumble into their games.

What is the legitmate purpose of this rule? To make it easier to take your turns at once so you don't have to come back for a while? if that's it, then this option is being severely abused.

Play only with players who play with honor and integrity. Check out xiGAMES online players group.

Ya know, Scarus, I'm starting to like you.

CC is my first experience at online Risk since Global War on BBSs back in the 80s. I thought the Freestyle Turns optin was pretty weird, but forgave it given the medium. The double turn concept is just nuts.

I signed up for a couple of double turn games and found that all startegy ends up being based around "sneaking" in your continents while the other players are away. Not my idea of turn-based startegy in any way, shape or form.

The sequential games are the best, but its time consuming. If not in real time, some turns can last for weeks.

Scarus, you've been pitching that risk league lately like you're a crack dealer trying to reach a quota.

It is addictive....lol For about the past four years I've played Risk two or three times a week with a group of friends, all honorable players. That group has grown to over two hundred. I could care less about rank. We all know who's good, and who's not...lol It's so much fun to not have worry about unknown players coming in and ruining your games.

We're not making any money, and not selling anything. We're just expanding our circle of known honorable players. We don't even get the power trip of running things as we have an election every six months, and somebody new can have the headaches of dealing with all of us crackheads....lol

Given the fact that it is at least somewhat a game of chance, I really don't have any qualms about using any legal means to gain some control over the silly game. You might see it my way after you lose ten men to one army. 8)

I think it's a strategy for people who can't win otherwise.
