I find it funny that so many people hate liberals (except liberals of course) yet when you look back, all the advances we've made in just about everything are due to that age's liberals, and as the generations progress, the liberals of the previous age become the conservatives of the new age.

Not necessarily true about liberals becoming conservative, but valid... I think it was Winston Churchill who said "If you aren't a liberal when you're young, you don't have a heart; if you're not conservative when you're old, you don't have a mind." Obviously I disagree.

"A conservative at 20 has no heart, a liberal at 40 has no brain."
Winston Churchill....... a wise man.
Another good one (and keeping on topic, I might add):
"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."

... It has been my experience that liberals (aka "progressives") fall into two general categories.
... The first is the highly-educated group, often from upper middle class to wealthy backgrounds. These folks know their facts and believe what they believe for reasons they can back up (though I usually disagree with them... not always).
... The second group is, sadly, the largest and is composed of the mindless hangers-on who shout loud about how they feel "Bush lied and good men died", et al... without knowing much of anything related to actual fact. Their education is through what others say and they cannot be bothered to pick up a book, read and think. These are those shouting out loud for "Change!" and going on and on about the "Audacity of Hope", quite unable to verbalize precisely what change it is they are so excited about. Angry and ignorant.
... So... Liberals are smart? Hmmmmm Some, yes, but not many.
... Drawing comparisons to conservatives is difficult, as they come in a much broader range (though I've known a great many ignorant and a few quite bright and well informed).
...

Those categories aren't exactly limited to liberals, you know... there are the educated and the ignorant everywhere.

A magnificently well thought out and balanced post, one has only to wander amongst the good citizens of the bible belt to discover swathes of well educated and open minded conservatives who conclusively prove the point........

The late and great William F. Buckley Jr. of Blessed Memory. Now he was really smart.
“Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.”
“Liberals, it has been said, are generous with other peoples’ money, except when it comes to questions of national survival when they prefer to be generous with other people’s freedom and security.”
“I’d rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.”

If those are representative of Buckley's perspective, then I see no reason to call him great.

A baseless, sweeping and downright foolish comment.

There may have been a time when this was an accurate statement. WWII saw a liberal President send many many Japanese to internment camps. However, in the current climate, that statement holds no water, given the drastic rollbacks to the constitution spearheaded by George W (the W is for Weetahd) Bush.

Why are those the only two options? and forget about people from Boston running the country, all they're good for is rioting and self-pity. (Boston Tea Party and Red Sox respectively)

A few broad generalizations between the differences of liberal and conservative philosophies:
A liberal believes the gov't knows how to spend your $$ better than you do (see Bill Clinton quotes, he actually said this).
A conservative believes you know how to spend your money better than the gov't does.
A liberal would "bail out" someone who jumped into a home loan that he/she obviously could not afford (at taxpayers' expense, of course).
A conservative would allow those who jumped into a home loan they could not afford to fail, thereby learning from their mistakes, so as to not make the same mistake again. (this also applies to the morons who provided the loans to people they knew couldn't pay it back as well).
A liberal would hand out beer (at taxpayers' expense, of course).
A conservative would teach people how to brew beer (and then let them brew).

Well quite obviously you were being sarcastic, as it was obvious which party you agree with. No doubt you think the Democrats' stances are completely invalid.

Party?
You mean democrat ? Or republican?
I belong to no party.
Sarcasm? Hardly.
I was comparing & contrasting some of the basic philosophies between
conservatism &
liberalism.
Would you care to dispute any analogy I've brought forth; as to the core differences between these two ideological philosophies?
