[23-NOV-2006] New powerful server

Post by lackattack »

Hey Conkies!

Conquer Club has been growing quickly over the past couple months. We have close to 6,000 active members on our scoreboard, have served about 100,000 games and have seen almost 400 members online at a time

All this activity takes a toll on the server and at times the website performed really slowly. We were reaching full capacity and I had to take action...

Our new home is a powerful, fully managed dedicated server from Rackspace, one of the most reputable hosting companies out there. Obviously this would not have been possible without the financial support from Conquer Club members, so hats of to all of you premies =D> Everything should be zippy now and we shouldn't have to upgrade the server for a long time. For the computer geeks out there, here are the specs:

Dual AMD Opteron Processors
2 GB Memory
120 GB IDE Drive
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
1 TB Monthly Bandwidth
"Fanatical" 24x7x365 Support and Service

In other news, we have some staffing changes: Scarus has decided to retire from the Mod Squad. A beacon of decency, Scarus's input and assistance was much appreciated. Fortunately he'll continue to play the role of honourable adversary in the games! We have appointed 3 new Multi Hunters: sully800, Master Bush and Fireside Poet. Zookeeper AndyDufresne will be training them in the black art of cheater-busting and eventually we'll see the trio investigating accusations in the Cheating & Abuse Reports forum. That should give us enough coverage to keep the games clean as our community grows.

Finally a word about New Recruit deadbeats - I recognize that this is an important problem and over the next few weeks we'll be taking steps to improve the indoctrination of new members of the club - which should reduce deadbeating. Further anti-deadbeat improvements will be included in the next update. The next update, by the way, should be ready for X-mas or New Years and will be chock-full of goodies

My Greasemonkey scripts are still working as they used to.

And... awesome news. At least this can only mean good news for CC. Does that make the next goal to get enough users to clog up this server? :)

Right click on the monkey head and choose "Manage User Scripts"
In the "included pages" section, hit "Add" and type http://*73.3.139.99/*
Click ok and it should work fine

Not sure if the * is needed, but I used them and it works fine for me.

I did this and no joy. Then I noticed the url in my address bar was 72 not 73. Changed it in Grease Monkey and all is good.

Thanks.

Things are absolutely zippy around here now! I just lost men more quickly on my failed attacked than I ever have before :P

Glad to see the improvements (and discover who my fellow multi hunters are!)

WTG multi-hunters, have fun

Scarus, take care mate, you did good in your short time as mod. I'll always appreciate it.

Thanks for the warm invites. I'll do my utmost to sheriff the multis, round them up, and slaughter them with precision and the best judgment I can give.

I would like to thank lackattack and AndyDufresne for asking me to serve CC in a more proficient manner than just a temporary holding station for points. :D I will still play in far too many games than I should, so this will not hamper my gaming recklessness at all and the points will flow freely as usual.

In commemoration of this event, I have adjusted my avatar accordingly. Yes, Longfellow will no longer be just a black and white figure, but now symbolically color has now been added as my CC experience is now in a heightened state.

I'll refrain from going into a long, drawn out, drivel laden speech where the tears would flow from sheer boredom and just end it by saying:

Thanks again. ;)
