New Zealand map idea

Post by ab327 »

Hey, this idea below is the outline of the continents i would hope to use, should this (my first map) be good enough to get support, i hope i can get good constructive criticism. i haven't yet decided upon territories, but they will come if i get enough support, i don't know if this has been thought of before, i can imagine it has. thanks:

I would be interested to see the outcome. Very rough first draft and thus can't really comment much. Check out the Japan map and make sure you dont make a map similar to that.

yea it is very rough, i shall make the parts bigger to fit all the territories in. its good to know that ur interested in it being finished though.

i tried to see the japan map the picture wouldn't load for me. is mine like that?

quite weird because the person who's making the japan one is from the same part of england as me lol

that looks pretty awesome i must say. well with regards to mine looking like haydena's i dont think it does, and its a completely different country really, i cant really change the shape of it, i want it to look like the country.

i have split the continents up like the USA map, im using fireworks, but im not sure as to how to draw good lines to connect them. im not pro and i have limited time so i havent really discovered much about fireworks, any tips?

North Island looks a little deformed. I started this map once and it idn't work so well.
ImageChildren, this is what happens to hockey players, druggies, and Hillary Clinton.

Talking about playability, theyre both long narrow countries, you dont want the playability to be the same.

i see what u mean but it'd be a shame if it didnt get made just because the playability had to the same/very similar to the japan map.

Its your job to make the map so it doesn't have the same playability as japan.

New Zealand map - DEAD!

Post by degeneration »

Latest version of the map

Image

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

39 territories at the moment.

Continents
North Cape, Northland, Bay of Islands, Auckland and Great Barrier Island - bonus 2 or 3.
Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Waikato, Rotorua, Taupo and Ruapehu - bonus 4
East Cape, Eastland, Hawkes Bay and Bay of Plenty - 2 (Bay of Plenty is in both this continent and the previous one)
Taranaki, Wanganui, Wellington, Manawatu, Wairarapa - 3 or 4
East, West, North and South Cook Strait - 3
Marlborough, Nelson, Golden Bay - 2
West Coast, Glaciers, Canterbury, Christchurch, Wanaka Queenstown and Mt Cook - 5
Fiordland, Milford Sound, Southland, Otago, Dunedin and Stewart Island - 4

Looking for advice on others that you think would work.

Main thing is - do you think this map would be playable and fun?!

All borders etc are very rough. I just sketched them in byhand on a blank map to give an idea of where they will be.

Obviously when the map is nearing completion I'll add pretty decorations and the like in!![/b]

Updated map is on Page 2

To see if the map is playable you really need to have your basic continents outlined. But as for the shape of the map in general? No, its not great. Like all other largely linear areas (Japan, Indochine, qwert's proposal for egypt, the Sweden proposal) the shape of this map will limit the playability from the start.

Yeah, the narrow-ness of the map is what I thought would be the main limiting factor. Have updated the pic above to show a rough idea of continents grouped by similar colour.

i made a new zealand map not long ago but have not managed to get any work done on it. i was told on these forums that the playability would be similar to the japan map purely because of the shape of the two countries, cant be helped, but i wonder what they will say to this. visually it's a nice map.

i wanted to finish mine, but i havent got the time really

Yeah? I figured the sea territories opened the map up a bit and would make it more playable, otherwise the only link between north and south will be between Wellington and Marlborough.

sorry, the greens at the bottom are completely separate from the greens at the top...

So you've got the red/orange ones at the top, the light green in the middle of north island, the browny green on east of north island, and yellows at bottom of north island. Then there's the sea territories, then reds at top of south island, then the purple/blue in middle of south island, then greens at bottom of south island.

good more distinct

still think you should move the words bay of plenty up to the actual bay, there are 3 names quite close to each other

Don't worry, if I carry on with it, the names will all be moved to better places, they are just there to give names just now. Only going to put effort in to getting names in right place etc, if general opinion is that the map could actually work! If it ain't gonna work, then there's no point in getting all teh fine details right!
