2024-12-29 21:21:48 - detlef: Thanks, but i'm not ready to call it over yet.
2024-12-29 22:23:53 - Pajarito: Oh, it's been effectively over since before our first turn. Surprising that it's gone this long.
2024-12-30 11:27:37 - detlef: you know that's not true. between some very nice rolls by you in particular and some pretty awful rolls from me since that great first turn...
2024-12-30 19:58:07 - Lo Pan: I took that as Pajarito knew they didn't stand a chance against us. ;)
2024-12-30 22:08:15 - vojinsek: In doubles on a big map (and on a small map, too), such as this one, the team moving first wins. You played first.
2024-12-31 02:16:06 - detlef: funny you say that. i went back and looked at the dubs games Lo and I have played on this map. This is our 7th and, in the previous 6, the starting team went 2-4. 3-4 with this one. What i like (and hate) about this map is that it often swings back
2024-12-31 02:17:53 - detlef: and forth from one team to the other. I actually thought you all did so arounf turn 4 or 5
2024-12-31 03:18:08 - Pajarito: the dice early were the only thing that kept us in this so long - we had great dice, you had terrible, but that never lasts
2024-12-31 03:18:30 - Pajarito: And we were behind from the start.
2024-12-31 05:47:48 - Lo Pan: speaking of terrible dice...
2024-12-31 09:06:52 - vojinsek: 21st Bunker 2 VS 21st Bunker 1 43 vs 6
2024-12-31 09:08:13 - vojinsek: For the second turn in a row I cannot take that 2 in 21B/1. That is all about the dice.
2024-12-31 09:10:53 - vojinsek: This is the game of #terts, bonuses are relatively small on the map. You started, and had this advantage sustainably. I played a ton of games on this map, and in dubs it is usually the first to move wins.
2024-12-31 09:12:20 - vojinsek: As a home map, I play this as trips, eventually quads, no spoils. Thus, luck is not a big factor, and the skill comes up front as important.
2024-12-31 14:09:31 - detlef: You should be aware that when you say things like, "I've played a lot of games on this map and in dubs it's usually the first to move wins" the person you're saying that to can easily look it up and see.
2024-12-31 14:10:28 - detlef: turns out, you've played all of 3 games of dubs on this map before this game and in all of the previous ones, the starting team lost.
2024-12-31 14:35:46 - vojinsek: Did not check that, but generally, on big maps in dubs, and small maps in quads, the first to play wins. In dubs, having a bigger # since the beginning. In quads, going for a kill.
2024-12-31 14:43:02 - vojinsek: OK, checked it now. You are right. I was losing two games long ago starting first, and won one, also a long time ago, starting later. But that is not a rule on a big map. You deploy 5, reduce the next player # to deploy 4 or even 3, and it is sustainable.
2024-12-31 16:11:16 - detlef: it's all good. A couple things about this map that might explain why the big map/dubs theory may not hold. Because I agree that it should even though in both of our (admittedly small) samples it doesn't
2024-12-31 16:13:11 - detlef: 1) you start with 17, so the starting player has to get 3 territories off the next player to prevent him from getting 5 also. And, even with a drop of 5, that requires some really good dice.
2024-12-31 16:15:55 - detlef: 2) all the ways you can get across the map with relative ease makes it really hard to protect your bonuses (and yes they're small, but 2 troops is 2 troops) so I've found it as both the leader and the team coming from behind, it's tough to capitalize on a
2024-12-31 16:18:11 - detlef: strong start on this map. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying we out-played you, but rather, that you guys recovered from my fast start and generally leveled the game before we eventually pulled away.
2025-01-01 06:19:20 - Pajarito: ¡Feliz Año Nuevo, team 1!
2025-01-01 14:22:35 - detlef: et tu también
