I also think it will take more than a year. That's why I decided to give a prize to the winner of the first round. If it needs to be shortened it can be done by eliminating some of the later phases. For example, it could end at the 16 players round and the player with most points after that round would be the winner.sonicsteve wrote:Oliver - can you give us some estimate of the timescale for completing this tournament, please?
It just looks to me on the face of it that it will take more than one year.

Not true! If keep losing in this tournament (due to not being good at AA) but keep winning in other games. I as a high ranked player will lose many more points than if it wasn't swiss style!OliverFA wrote:This means that high ranked players don't risk losing lots of CC points in the first games by being forced to play low ranked players. They will eventually play low ranked players if they are good enough to reach the last stages of the tournament.
The key here are the words "in the first games"Gillipig wrote:Not true! If keep losing in this tournament (due to not being good at AA) but keep winning in other games. Yes, mate - it needs to be shortened, the rulebook now says:OliverFA wrote:I also think it will take more than a year. That's why I decided to give a prize to the winner of the first round. Let's say that each game takes an average of 2 weeks (2 player games usually take a week or less, 4 players take 2 weeks and 8 players around 3 weeks). Then it can be 10 games for the 1st round and 5 games for each subsequent round, for a total of 20 games.sonicsteve wrote:Yes, mate - it needs to be shortened, the rulebook now says:OliverFA wrote:I also think it will take more than a year. "Each tournament should be designed to end within 1 year. (Added June 16, 2011)".
Can you work on it? Needs to be a realistic probability (no guarantees of course) that it will finish in less than 12 months for us to approve it.
Many, because "losing" in CC terms is not being the first player. But in the tournament, being the second in 4p and 8p games would give you 5 and 10 points, which probably would be enough not only to keep you in the tournament, but to be in the higher part of the tableGillipig wrote:How many games can I lose and still be in the tournament?
With other words if I "almost win" a lot in this tourney, it could drag me down to private againOliverFA wrote:Many, because "losing" in CC terms is not being the first player.
