It took months for me to remember "oh whatever happened to such and such tournament" and when I went to check it was already on the finals! A little to late to complain.

I think that if a TO does that and that the final is still not over, it's too bad for the guy who reached the final due to an error and i would make a rematch of all the wrongly seeded games.
otherwise fully agree with the OP
Off topic: I agree with this. I try very hard to keep track of the tournaments that I'm in and where they're at. But if I were to miss something, I would think that the TO should make reasonable efforts to back track the tournament and write off any affected games as mistakes. Now this wouldn't work in some of the huge tournies, I'm in if they reached finals. But that would take months. For most tournies, replaying a couple of games to fix a mistake is the proper outcome.
On topic: I would love it if much of the effort that I put in to keep track of tournies was automated by this site. This could be done by adding one step to the TO's tasks: they would have to submit a roster at the beginning of the tournament. The roster could go into the same database as the current Tournament Finder one that records Tournament Name, TO, winner, etc. The Tournament Finder page would be updated with one more field: "With Player." You could find all tournaments you're in by querying your name in that field.
Bonus points, if the powers that be add further options to distinguish between active, finished, unstarted, or dead tournaments.
I hesitate to add more responsibility to TO's, but if they were required (or given the option) to note eliminated players, you could even add options next to the newly created "With Player" box to query only active or finished tournaments.
