NomadPatriot wrote:ethnic slurs are established by the enough people of a certain race saying " people are using this phrase to describe my race in a derogatory way, it is offensive & it shouldn't be used..." typically everyone agrees that if even a minority of the people of that race are saying they are offended, steps should be taken to ensure the word is not allowed to be used to describe the race of that person using that phrase...
whether it is being used in a derogatory or non-derogatory manner..
the N-word describing black people,
the F-word describing gay people ,
the S-word describing Latino people,
the C-word describing Asian people..
the W-word describing the mods ..
no matter what the context is.. those words are not allowed .. if you just log into GC and write any of those words at random without any context, not directed towards anyone at all.. you get a ban correct...?
but when it comes to white people.. it seems those rules no longer apply...
I am white.. I am telling everyone the word hillbilly is offensive to me because it is describing my race in a derogatory way... many others outside of CC have also noted it is an derogatory ethnic slur.. it is widely noted as being a racial / ethnic slur. regardless of what application it is being applied too... some black people are not offended by the N-word,, they use it themselves. .it is in their song lyrics.. it is used to describe their friends. but the word is the n-word.. and enough people said it was offensive and it is banned .. as it should be...
I ask hillbilly be removed from use In GC... if certain people do not agree. then maybe the question isn't why do I want it banned.. maybe the question should be.. what is the race of the people who do not want it banned and promote it's use... every race can be racist.. it's not just a white phenomenon..
Here is your problem....
From Dictionary.com
N-Word: a contemptuous term for a black or dark-skinned person
F-Word: a contemptuous term used to refer to a male homosexual.
S-Word: a contemptuous term used to refer to a Spanish-American person.
Hillbilly: a term used to refer to a person from a backwoods or other remote area, especially from the mountains of the southern U.S.
Hick: an unsophisticated, boorish, and provincial person; rube.
Redneck:
1. an uneducated white farm laborer, especially from the South.
2. a bigot or reactionary, especially from the rural working class.
You see the difference between them? The first 3 are used to negatively describe people simply on their race or sexuality. The other 3 describe specific people based on where they live, how they act, and what they do for work. And it is not describing it in a negative way. Although like anything with context it can be used negatively.
For example i could say "ya, he is a politician, it is no surprise he does that." and with that line alone you can't tell what i mean by it. I could be saying replying to someone saying "he is very generous to the community and always spearheading ways to help the community" or they could of said "He lied and stole money on under the table deals".
In one example i'm suggesting it is natural for politicians to have a large role in helping the community in the other i suggest it is natural to assume a politician is lying and making under the table deals. CONTEXT... SEE?
Also i must ask you keep me out of your little fight for justice. As a urban, white, male i find it offensive to suggest that i could be in any way offended by a term that describe country people. If you really feel the need to argue then argue for your country folk as long as your rural internet allows but please put away your race card.
