We now have burger king!!

For some reason, burger king pulled out of the french market in 1997 in france. Ever since, it s been very common for french people to rush into a burger king each time we travel elsewhere in europe. Because basically burger king never pulled out of other european markets!
Or maybe in belgium? Because belgium is the reason why they left. There is a belgian franchise called Quick, here + mcdonald's (france is the second country with the most mcdonalds restaurant in the world!). So basically burger king decided that european markets couldn t handle more than 2 competitors.

And yesterday, after years of petition on facebook... Fake anouncements ect.... Burger king opened 1 restaurant, a very small one, in a parisian train station. There has been huge lines of parisians going nuts to eat whoppers all day! That train station is not far from where i live, i think i ll go tomorrow even if i have to wait for an hour!

Anyways.. In the news, some reporter went bellow the eiffel tower to go find some american tourists and show them how nuts french people got with the burger king reopening. They just couldn t understand what the f*ck we were doing, given the poor image they have of burger king. Funny to see how you desire this bad something average because it s been taken away!

Green burrito is pretty good too. There are no Carl's jrs here yet or even the substandard Hardee's. we had Krispy Kreme for a while but it closed.

I think there are 6 Burger Kings. Lots of Taco Bells. We go there but I don't know what they use for cheese. ~shudders~ We have a few Five Guys, they are good. There are a couple of Fat Burgers, good fries but the burgers are only ok.

There is a new place near here. Rico's tacos. Pretty good, just a guy and his family making tacos and other mex food. Nice people too.

You are looking in the wrong direction! That s your friends from up north! We actually leave most things untranslated in france. The classic quarter pounder with cheese is actually the "royal cheese" not the "royale with cheese" travolta is full of crap. But that s the only one with a different name (note that it remains in english, but something that the average french would understand; quarter pounder is a measure that doesn t mean shit here).
In quebec, they call the the happy meal the "menu joyeux". That is absolutely hilarious for french people. People from quebec just translate absolutely everything, and that s when I realize how many anglicisms we have in the 21st century french.

And yes, the mcdonalds is significantly better here. In the US it s probably the worse fast food of all, i was surprised by their quality standards in their home country.

Carl s junior is much better indeed. But it s never been on the french market, nor anywhere in europe. BK is everywhere in europe except here where it has been absent for 16 years. People of my generation remember their teen or pre-teen years going there with school friends on wednesday afternoon (most school students have the wednesday afternoon off here) going at the bk or mcdonalds. There is a brand attachment. And since they pulled out bk, any french would tell you that bk was better.

We humans are funny. Take something away, and our desire for it increases tenfold. I roomed with a guy from Germany 4 years back who said Abercrombie was all the rage, I think because of a similar situation. We need only look at the McRib to validate this idea. Not too many BK fans here in Southern Ohio. A bunch of these "higher end" fast burger joints are cropping up: Five Guys, SmashBurger (they make an excellent black bean burger), and EO Burger.
